Play fighting?

I have a brother and sister, about a year old, both been 'done'. They still play fight all the time, batting each other and jumping out on one another and rolling about on the floor when they're both in the house. Is this normal?

I have no idea but we have a 4yo boy cat and 6mo girl cat and they also do this a lot. It does't look aggressive and is mostly instigated by the kitten!!

I think it is play fighting as boy cat could hurt girl cat if he wanted to.

Am guessing they will grow out of it........

They'll likely have been doing it to each other since they were tiny so it's pretty normal given that they're really still kittens - but there's nothing wrong with you issuing an occasional admonition if they're getting too boisterous. Mother cats do it all the time.

(If you've ever seen a real cat fight, you'll know the difference between fighting and playing by the way - it's earth shatteringly awful.)

Yes, I've seen a spittting fur flying cat fight with neighbourhood cats, very different.

they're the best of friends despite the boisterous stuff, sleeping together and licking each other in the midst of it all.

Sounds OK so I'd leave them to it unless you hear any real yowls of pain. Things should gradually quiet down as they get older anyway - when they're sedate 15 year olds, you'll likely wonder where all that energy went!

I am a relatively new cat "owner" and also used to worry about industrial relations between my two. Now I know they are playing (mostly) and for the first time just the other day, I saw one of them give a little lick or two to the other one.

It really cheered me up actually. They are not siblings and didn't know each other when they came to us (at the same time).

mine have running battles - the kitten winds up the old girl and they have a bit of a to-do

no-one gets hurt and I've stopped worrying about it Grin

Val I am looking forward to the day when my two curl up together or indulge in a bit of mutual grooming, can't see it happening for a while though!!

I think it's really sweet.
