Flea killing pill!

I don't know if anyone has tried this before but we have had an awful time with fleas this summer - vet recommended a pill called Comfortis.

Gave it to cats in the evening, by morning tiny dead fleas everywhere!!

Bit grim, but so far I am so impressed. You are supposed to use it in conjunction with spot on and after spraying the house if anyone wants to try it

Will update in a few days when it's more obvious whether the fleas have definitely gone or not - but thought I would post about it now because I've been at my wit's end and want to share the love Smile

was it a vet prescription? I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 04/10/2014 20:44

I use 4fleas, excellent. And billycat goes a bit loopy on them, so good if there's Nowt on TV. Grin

Yes, I got it from the vet - they said it had worked for everyone who had been having a problem so far.

I haven't seen any fleas today, but I wouldn't normally first day after a spray (have sprayed whole house 4 times in the last 2mths!) so next few days will be the test.

Oh hang on. Probably not on prescription, I got it when I was taking one if our cats in to be checked over but they gave me one for other cat too, so might be able to just buy it from the desk/elsewhere.

I find Advantage does the job brilliantly - it's on prescription.

Fanjango · 04/10/2014 21:41

Advantage is all that works on my cats. I get it on line from medic animal which is a little cheaper than the shops but you can get it from pets at home too.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 04/10/2014 22:07

None of the spot-on/sprays were working for us for more than 3 days which is why I asked the vet about extra measures and they recommended this pill.

Fleas are little bastards this summer. I've got about 9 bites on me from this week alone and I am going to have to go to vet tomorrow and insist they give me something other than Frontline Combo. I indorexed half the house this weekend too. Living room tomorrow so I can shut them out as I go to work.

And the cats are Programmed too. I had to eat my words back in August, as I thought that would be enough. Nope.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 05/10/2014 19:42

2 days since I gave them the pill and still no fleas, so recommend asking about comfortis - sympathize they have been truly awful this year and we had been battling for 2 months!

Sorry I meant to ask what programmed is?

We've been using Comfortis for3/4months now and so far it works brilliantly- only downside is the price (around £40 for 6 months). Think it is prescription as when I looked online to see if I could get it cheaper, it was only available on a couple of places and they wanted a scrip.

Evenstar · 06/10/2014 22:06

I have just tried Comfortis on my boy who has severe flea allergy and was chewing himself despite being treated with Advocate and the house being sprayed with Indorex. So far we have had a big improvement, though it has only been a week.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 06/10/2014 22:26

I haven't seen any fleas yet (apart from dead ones!) but still a bit of flea dirt and irritated skin when grooming from our two. Hopefully that is just left over.

It's certainly made a hell of a lot more difference than anything else has.

Program is an anti-flea treatment that works by sterilising the fleas and making it impossible for any eggs to hatch. It does not kill adult fleas, but after a while, they ought to be down to levels that don't bother cats or humans, and you don't get breeding colonies of the things in soft furnishings. You can either feed it to the cats monthly or get a 6-month injection.
This is the first year we've ever had to go and get additional flea control in about 18 of having cats. I now have Moonkitten Frontlined (with the last Frontline Combo) and Mooncat Broadlined. We shall see...
