Just wondered if we are likely to pass, we have seen a beautiful little girl who we would like to adopt and now are nervous they will say no.

We have an old boy who has had two other kittens (no longer with us sadly) introduced in the past which worked ok, I think because he was seen as top cat. He is quite chilled and sleeps a lot and I think would be OK with a kitten, but no guarantees I guess. Our house is large over 3 floors, so possible to separate them if we have to.

We live on the main road through a small town /village, 30mph. It is fairly busy but not an a road, just village traffic. We have a large 100ft garden and our cat uses that and never goes round the front as you can get into other gardens through ours.

Does this sound OK?

I bet they turn you down for the road.

Hope not but they are really strict.

We didn't pass the inspection despite being in a rural area, no main roads.

georgedawes · 27/09/2014 15:49

Really? Gosh I'll be sad, it's 30mph so not high speed and are garden is perfect. Our old girl was hit on an estate, 20mph road which was very quiet. :(

Our not are!!!! Jeez terrible grammar.

Why did they turn you down? We are a small town in rural area too.

chockbic · 27/09/2014 15:52

Because of being slightly out of area. To be honest I don't think the rehomer liked the cut of our jib!

georgedawes · 27/09/2014 15:54

That's bad. They are crying out for homes! Current centres near us are all full and not accepting any new animals.

I know thats what I thought. Lots of experience with moggies too. Although of course you never stop learning with them Smile

We've got a Bengal cross kitten anyway. He is lovely if not a handful Grin

OddFodd · 27/09/2014 15:59

Mu kittens were from the RSPCA. We live on a corner 30mph and were accepted (plus we have a tiny garden). They normally only let kittens go in pairs but may waive that, given you have an older cat

georgedawes · 27/09/2014 15:59

Bet he is! I love bengals but don't think could have one. Where did you get him?

OP posts:
chockbic · 27/09/2014 16:01

From a website that sounds as if you might chew it!

He's funny and affectionate and just a little bit wild.

georgedawes · 27/09/2014 16:17

Sounds like a sweetie.

Smile

When are you due a visit?

georgedawes · 27/09/2014 16:22

Not sure, they said they'd call. If it's a no I'll be gutted, the little girl we saw was so sweet. All black and very calm and inquisitive.

OP posts:
chockbic · 27/09/2014 16:24

Oh black cats are nice. Some of them are like panthers in the Summer.

georgedawes · 27/09/2014 16:26

She looked very feline if that is not a daft thing to say! Very small for her age but friendly and happy to be held.

I live on a main A road that is the route to three distribution depots. I have a 190ft garden.
I explained that I never ever let my cats out the front and have never seen one of my cats round the front.
I technically failed the RSPCA home check, but they still let me have the cat.

georgedawes · 27/09/2014 17:24

That's reassuring! I so hope they say yes. I'm at home all day so can give it lots of attention and we never let cats out the front, same as you. I also don't see the road as a huge hazard as some other roads as there are no parked cars near us.

Maybe it depends on the branch?!

I live just off a busy (20mph) road that is a major bus route etc and had no problems with my RSPCA home check. I said the same as you, that she will only go out of the back.

They asked me what we would feed her, if we would insure her, who would look after her if we went away, where she would sleep, what vet we would use - simple stuff really.

Lots of luck.

georgedawes · 27/09/2014 17:34

Oh gosh getting my hopes up now. Fingers crossed! She seemed so friendly, and we have so much love to give and space /time now for another. Hope they call soon!

Just realised garden is actually about 130 ft. Hope this helps!

I have no experience of this but someone recently brought Protectapuss to my attention. There are probably more cat proofing solutions out there but the testimonials seem good?

I'd have to investigate the cost, safety and look of the final product but it sounds like an interesting concept in principle.

God knows what the RSPCA would make of it but perhaps it would sway them if you were on the verge of being rejected due to the road.

georgedawes · 30/09/2014 15:41

They already knew the area and are fine with it! Little girl is now home and settling really well!

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/09/2014 16:47

How is top cat taking it?.

georgedawes · 30/09/2014 16:57

Ok, he's sniffed her a lot, hissed once and gone to sleep upstairs. Little kitten very interested in him but submissive so hoping all will be well. Fingers crossed!

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 30/09/2014 16:59

He can't be that bothered if he's sleeping then!. Ours would be dragging it out the cat flap.

georgedawes · 30/09/2014 17:03

He's quite chilled as long as he is top cat I think! She seems a real sweetie, likes to play but very, very cuddly. I'm in love already!
