Not sure if neighbour is stealing my cat.

One of our cats is a wanderer, she's well known in various houses in our street.

Yesterday I had a call from a neighbour saying she was there again (3rd or 4th time)and saying they'd take her in if we couldn't look after her. But we CAN look after her, she just likes to wander. The neighbour even let her in & fed her while I was on the phone.

Is she trying to take my cat & is there anything I can do about it? Surely if she did live there she'd still return here?

You need to ask all your neighbours not to let the Wanderer into their houses, and definitely not to feed her. The neighbour who phoned you obviously needs a more detailed explanation of how cats behave!

I hate this. Our cat has been missing for a week and a half. A lady up the road just called saying she just saw the poster re our cat and realised she was sunbathing in her garden all yesterday and apologised for not calling sooner. She looked healthy so looks like she's found a new home :(
she is chipped so if you think a cat is stray surely you check before taking in and feeding her! ? I don't know where she's living but will be doing more door Knocking when dh gets home later. It's theft in my eyes. Never feed a cat that's not yours and take it to a vet to check ownership. You don't say to someone well you Park your car outside my house so you may as well give it to me! I know that's not the same but after 9 years of caring for our cat, having her vaccinated etc she is our cat :(

I don't think she is trying to steal it - she not have called you if she wanted to.
Probably the cat is repeatedly going into her house, and asking for or stealing food, so she's just checking.

You can get Do Not Feed collars which will make it obvious from the outset, but some cats really do just go and lodge and make new friends where they fancy Confused
