How soon to neuter/spay

Obie and Ophie are 15 weeks old now, and a gorgeous pair of utterly mad, purry balls of hair Grin
They are chipped, but not yet neutered, and obviously they can't go outside until they have been done. But they are getting faster and sneakier by the day and sooner or later are going to make it outside! (The garden is pretty secure fora month or so as high fences)

I believe they can be neutered quite young now, but while Obie (boy) is already nearly 3kg (they are Maine Coons and he's greedy!) Ophie (girl) is 1.9 and much dinkier. I don't want to stunt their growth by neutering too early but I suspect Obie will be full of testosterone soon going by his current dominance!

So how soon to safely put them both thro it?

the rescue i work for neuters at 11 weeks or 1kg in wheight but these are mainly moggies i dont know about maine coons but cats can become pregnant as young as 4-5 months so i would have a word with your vet and get them done fairly soon and certainly by 5 months old

We advise doing it at 16 weeks, and we do the cats in our own care even sooner than that. It doesn't stunt their growth. And it appears that the tinier they are the less they seem to be affected by the actual op.

My cat was trying to mate his sister at 17 weeks. I'd be more worried about them Dtd with each other than getting out.

His sister was incredibly pretty by the way but we still felt it was inappropriate behaviour.

Ok I shall book them in for payday!!!! That will make them 16 weeks. Is it best to do them at the same time? I'm guessing Ophie will feel more delicate after spaying and Obie is a bit rough and tumble!
