Broken pelvis

So our wee cat got ran over last night, long story cut short...
He's got a fractured pelvis, unstable. The vet has said he could recover by cage rest, we can't afford the vet school. He's our gorgeous boy, does anyone know if this is the answer? We just want to do the right thing by him.

I'm so sorry. I don't understand what you mean by the vet school. But yes, cage rest can be all that is required and it's certainly worth trying.

Thank you, I think the vet meant taking him to the vet school in Glasgow and an operation would be an option. Just very expensive.

Good luck

Many, many cats do great and go on and have long happy and active lives after cage rest for a fractured pelvis ( many human fractured pelvises are fixed by rest).

My ginger boy broke his pelvis (and leg, jaw and ribs) and it was mended by cage rest.
We had to keep a close eye on his bladder and bowel workings but he is fine now (apart from the missing leg!)

Cage rest totally appropriate treatment for fractured pelvis in cats as long as the hip joint not affected and pelvic canal not too squished. Sure your vet wouldn't advise it if not possible to fix by rest alone. Main concern is whether bladder and bowel function is ok. Hope that helps! Big hugs for your kitty.
