Cat food brands

Just wondering if anyone has done lots of research into cat food brands and can share their wisdom with me?

My 13 year old moggie has always been sensitive to what he eats, so having found a brand he tolerated we have stuck with it for most of his life (Hills science diet light/mature light). The last couple of months he initially stopped eating, then every time he ate he vomited, pretty much every day - sometimes more. Now we've finished the bag of food I am wondering if it was a dodgy batch as it could have tied in with the start of the new bag. Googled, found nothing but have read some horror stories and I have now started to question the nutritional content (something I have, to my shame, never even considered before).

So, can anyone recommend a good quality high meat content food that is enjoyed by their consumers, preferably not bank-breaking?! I would like to stick to dry food if possible.

Firstly in an older cat with repeat vomiting this warrants a trip to your vet to make sure there is not a medical reason for the vomiting ( there are several possibilities).

Thanks, yes I was planning to take him but he improved back to normal, which is occasional vomiting, most often straight after eating. I have discussed this with his vet and they have always been confident that he is in good health, other than always being very scabby and coat not always in good nick. He has a flea allergy so we do our best to keep on top of this, but I'm now wondering how much of this could be improved with a better diet? But yes, I must take him to be checked up.

My cat has a very sensitive tummy, when we first got him he was being fed Iams and he was in awful condition. He was sick all the time, diarrhea, no energy and his coat was terrible. I had a bit of a look around and switched him to a Royal Canine bread specific food (he's a Siamese). He's now a completely different cat, no vomiting or diarrhea, runs around like a maniac and his coat is beautiful.

I think you just need to find the right food for your cat and maybe have a word with the vet to see if they can recommend anything. Oh to have a cat that can eat anything!

Thanks for your input. We had Siamese when I was growing up, they are fabulous cats! I have found a pet owners' forum and having had a read am seriously considering switching to wet food, the arguments seem fairly compelling. If they are doing well on dry food then fine, but he's not in great nick so I do think I need to do something.

We had a similar problem with cat food and our cat being sick. The vet said to avoid all dry food, but he also said cat food does sometimes come in a one off 'bad batch' so it might be that. If ours is being sick for a few days we give cooked chicken or fish for a while. Also the vet told us to avoid any cat food with any vegetables in it as they are obligate carnivores. Our cat seems fine with Gourmet Perle Chef's Collection, but with gravy not jelly. Hope you find something that works for your moggie.
