Rehoming cat(s) - will the rescue let me if I'm out of the house M-F 8am-6pm?

Hi, it's basically exactly as the title says - I'd love to rehome one or even two cats, but I'm worried the rescue centre won't think I'm suitable because I'm out of the house a fair bit. That's why I wondered about rehoming two - will they keep each other company? Would I need to take time off work for the first week or so to settle them in?
I think I'm a good candidate otherwise - live in a quiet cul-de-sac, garden backs onto other gardens and allotments, more than happy to take a pair, able to afford food/vets/insurance etc. - but I'm worried they won't let me because of my work hours!
What do you experts think? Smile

It really depends who's running your shelter or CPL. Some of them are more reasonable than others. Our CPL is renowned for refusing people for ridiculous reasons - we were refused as we live just off a quiet 30mph road. Apparently when she looked at google earth she thought there was potential for people to speed. All 6 cars an hour. Nevermind the 2 acres of woodland and fields that we back onto and I'm at home most of the time and an experienced cat owner. It's a cat paradise.
My colleague was refused cats from the SSPCA because she was working 2 days a week and would be out of the house 8am to 6.30.
Other places will quite happily (and sensibly) rehome to any good home.

We adopted two cats from the Cats Protection 6 weeks ago and are out of the house for a similar length of time during the working week. We decided to adopt adult cats because of our work commitments and we're guided by the Cats Protection as to which cats to consider. I think it's nice to have two if you're out at work a lot. We've got a cat flap for the cats to use in the day. I think you can make it work - our two seem happy!

We wouldn't have a problem with that at all, but would probably suggest a pair of cats. If you've got a cat flap then even one cat would be fine.
