Can someone please hold my hand?

I was adopted by the local stray cat and, because he was bullying my cat, my Mum took him in. He's an elderly gentleman and has various issues - he can't see very well, has arthritis and the vet thinks he may have neurological problems, although we chose not to put him through the tests at the time. He's always paced around, even when he was in our garden.

Over the last few weeks he's been getting worse and is now constantly walking into things and spent last night behind the umbrella stand as he couldn't find his way out. He's had a few accidents indoors (although he's never got the hang of the litter tray so I don't know how much to read into that) and he hasn't eaten this morning, which is unheard of.

I've made an appointment to take him to the vet on Thursday (which I'll obviously bring forward if necessary) and I have a horrible feeling we won't be bringing him home. Although it didn't work out with him living with us I love him to bits and wanted him to live in luxury for longer. I truly hate his previous owners for letting him get into the state he was in and abandoning him.

If you've got to the end of my ramblings, thank you.

So sorry - I remember your previous posts about him. Poor old boy. Maybe his eyesight has got worse suddenly, or I think if cats have a stroke they can be quite incapacitated at the time although some do improve (trying to be hopeful for you!)

You have been so kind to him, he is being loved and pampered - no need to feel guilty about it if the worst does happen.

He would have been in a far worse predicament at the moment if you & your mum had not taken him in and looked after him.

Fingers crossed for him & keep us posted

Thank you. I keep telling myself that, whatever happens, he's been loved for the last 4 or 5 months and he's wanted for nothing since he moved in with my Mum. His arthritis seems to have improved, his fur is thick and soft and he's fed on demand (he was underweight so I haven't told her off!).

I'm going round to see him tonight and hopefully get covered in cat drool when I give him Dreamies - if he doesn't eat them then I'll know something is really wrong.

If the worst does happen then I'm staying with him - he's been left on his own too often in his life.

Well William seems to have just been trying to scare us all! I saw him last night and he ate his Dreamies and then a bowl of Felix and had a thorough wash - it's obviously my magic touch! He ate more after I left and is back on his Sheba today and is currently sleeping in the garden.

We've decided to postpone the visit to the vet as he is getting back to normal and we don't want to put him through it unless we have to. The vet was lovely and told us that if we need to take him in we only have to give them a call.

I'm still worried about him as I know he has a lot of issues and is an elderly gentleman but hopefully he'll be around and enjoying the high life for a while longer! I love him to bits and want to try to make up for his past.

Oh and we've decided that the 'accidents' are more deliberate - apparently he came in especially to have a wee on the living room carpet...

Blighter!

If it's any consolation, Seniorboy had what I think was a little stroke a while back but pretty well recovered fully - cats often do. (Recover fully that is.) Even if he takes another turn for the worse neurologically though (and Seniorboy hasn't so far, touch wood) you're still giving him a great sunset time. So as timtam said, no need to feel guilty about anything.

All the best to William.

Thanks cozie. The vet thinks that William either had a stroke or was hit by a car long before he adopted me so I'm wondering if he maybe had another stroke. Every now and then he walks in circles miaowing but most of the time he's quite content.

To be honest him and my mother are made for each other - she loves having someone to look after. She also has poor eyesight and can't walk in a straight line...
