Fussy eater or being fed elsewhere?

Adult cat 4yo, former house cat from garden less flat now allowed out into our garden after being rehomed to us nearly a year ago. Food is science plan biscuits plus whiskas or waitrose own brand pouches of wet food. She is getting more and more fussy and leaving her food lately- perhaps past month or so- leaving her biscuits, licking the jelly off the wet food and leaving the meat bits. I've tried feeding smaller amounts more often but made no difference. I tried Felix and Sheba in case her tastes had changed and she quite liked these but still left quite a bit. Neighbours on all sides of us have said she often comes into their homes to see them. Obviously she wears a collar but is this leaving of food just cat fussiness or do you think someone else is feeding her? She is very cute and affectionate plus quite miaowy and I can imagine would be a rewarding part time cat for someone who felt sorry for her!

It's possible that she could have some tooth trouble I suppose (although she would be young for it - is she healthy and has she had a recent vet-check?) or that she's suddenly become a superb hunter but Yes: the likeilhood is that if she's very cute and appealing, she's getting taste treats from one or more of the neighbours. The problem there is as well that if they don't have cats and cat food, she would probably be getting 'little somethings' of human food from their fridges which might not be good for her - you know, the 'morsel of ham' or 'morsel of chicken' syndrome. That wouldn't be such good news.

Any chance that you could not only talk to them about it but also put a 'Do not Feed' collar on her? How is her weight doing?

Thanks for the thought about the teeth Cozie. I had not thought of that. She had them cleaned at the vet perhaps three months ago, I wonder if something is perhaps not right there. I have been confused about the fussiness thing as she has not been putting on weight. If she was being fed regularly elsewhere I would expect her to get fatter quite quickly- she visits a lot of flats!

Maybe not - if she was getting nearly the right amount of calories in ham, chicken and dreamies (for example) she could be limiting herself to the jelly to get her moisture needs.

If you've definitely noticed a recent change in her eating habits though, I think it would be worth vetting her for a check. I still think she's a tad young for serious tooth trouble but it's not impossible - and there are other things the vet might want to check for.

Best of luck with her and let us know how it goes.

Thank you I will take her to vet. Last couple of nights she has vomited clear stuff which must mean something is not agreeing with her. Otherwise in good spirits but still not really eating very much at home.

Just to update- Inadvertantly I kept her in a couple of daytimes lately so no access to neighbours. The normal eating habits have then returned. Hmm

Sounds like a Six Dinner Sid then? Little hussy.
