Going to lose another one...

Less than a week after we said goodbye to our young boycat the vet told me today that the time has come for my old boy as well. Creatinine is high, potassium is low and he is anaemic. I'm gutted. He was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease 3 years ago so he has been living on borrowed time but I really hoped it won't be so soon after the youngster... Old boy has been with me through so much. The vet said just come drop him off in the morning but I could never do that, he deserves for me to be there. I will ask DH to come too, I can't face it alone. Now it's a case of making the call of when his quality of life is no longer acceptable. It is so, so hard...

I was on your thread about Minus, so sorry that you have another cat close to the end of his life, he looks gorgeous.

fackinell · 02/09/2014 10:41

Hmmm be a bit like putting a toddler in an old folks' home IMO, LastingLight. Grin They may be fine, our 8yo was fine with a
Kitten although slightly exasperated.

RIP Mozart. We hope in cat heaven the daily menu include milk, yogurt, tuna and freshly baked buttermilk rusks.

Indeed.

How is your DD?

MrsMinton · 04/09/2014 18:29

I'm sure it is Lastinglight. Plus lots of warm cosy sleeping spots.

timtam23 · 04/09/2014 19:10

So sorry LastingLight
Remember the happy times you had with him Flowers

DD was ok right up to bedtime when there was no ginger lump to curl up against her in bed. I got into bed with her and she talked and talked about Mozart... eventually she convinced me to let her sleep in our bed tonight.

Do you know, I find it virtually impossible to sleep without a cuddler in bed - so she's not alone.

Have you conceded on a new kitten yet?

cozietoesie · 04/09/2014 21:32

Viz - me posting this evening. The cuddler is to the left of the laptop (having had his supper.)

He looks so content.

I am sorry LL, you've had an awful time of it. I'm glad you have your girl cats to fuss.

fackinell · 04/09/2014 21:49

Oh Sad I was scared to click. I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP Mozart, look out for my Bobo, he will look after you and show you all the best spots. Envy

Thanks LL and family

LastingLight · 05/09/2014 08:21

Thanks everybody for your support.

We haven't really thought about a new kitten, I'm a bit worried about the effect it will have on our older ladies. Neither of them are cuddly cats and DD badly wants another cuddler. I've explained to her that you get a kitten and cannot predict what it's personality will be like.

As cats are territorial, you may find one of the others wanders through to your DD's bed to keep her company now. We have a cosy spot hogger in our house, as soon as big cat gets up, little cat is right in there.
