Is it ok to give an old cat kitten food?

Portia is 14..very healthy and only missing one tooth, but also very picky and very light. Since Morph died she has really been off her food, and has even refused chicken, or prawns!

However today I got my delivery of Animonda carny kitten food, as I want to try it on my babies when they arrive. Tried her on some and she wolfed it down..and asked for more! Fab to see her really enjoying something, and I will order some senior stuff for her now, but it's only since being on here that I discovered that whiskers etc is rubbish so am learning about better cat food. Is it ok nutritionally for her?

10 days til I get my new Coon babies.. not that I'm counting or anything Grin and I am going to introduce them to Portia VERY slowly, as i know she is lonely and really hope she will accept them!

No problem at all. There's not really much difference between kitten food and adult cat food. Often it's only the size of the chunks. The most important thing is finding something she wants to eat.

Kitten food is a little bit higher in calories than the adult version...but for older cats that is sometimes a good thing.

My own view, Medusa - which you likely know well - is that if she'll eat something, Great. (Unless it's actively not good for her and kitten food is fine.) Just get those calories down her if she's a picky one. How is her weight doing?

She's definitely lost some since Morph died .She was only 3 kg the day he died anyway (she has always been very tiny and light but very healthy) and it's hard to see as she is long haired but she feels even lighter :( She has definitely been lonely and I think not having Morph to annoy her and to remind her about eating, has been bad.. we have tried everything but she has never been very interested in food and his greed was a good influence!

However she loved the carny stuff today so fingers crossed. She is still following me around ALL the time at home, which she never did before (I have to say I'm enjoying her actually wanting my company). It's been quite strange to discover she must have liked having him around after all!

Well it's good if she likes it and it agrees with her. (I've heard some people who've used it say that it affects their poo but I have no experience on that - other posters may comment.)

I'm so used to having a cat follow me round when it's awake that I barely even notice it now. In fact, when The Lodger arrived I thought he was unhappy because he was 'standoffish'. (Only to my eyes - he wasn't really.)
