vomiting cat

Why does my cat keep eating grass and then vomiting it up and how can I stop her - my garden is full of the stuff!

Getting a bit worried now as she's been sick several times this morning and only the first couple of times have grass in them. She's about 9 months old and seems fit and well otherwise

Has she been wormed recently, Marshy ?

If a cat has been sick several times in quick succession, I'd be thinking about the vet. An occasional vomit just about goes with the territory but several in quick succession is a bit of a red flag.

Has she been eating/drinking and evacuating as normal as far as you know? And how does she look? (Eg bright and lively or sluggish and dull-eyed.)

Vomming seems to have calmed down now. She's lying in the bathroom sink which has been her favourite cool place in these hot days.

She's long haired and I wondered if she might be trying to bring up a fur ball?

And yes, she's probably due a worming.

Might take her off to the vet next week.

I was wondering about a fur ball - our older one eats more grass and is usually sick a few times before the joy that is a fur ball gets hawked up Grin

Thanks both. We gave her a worming tablet last night. Today she seems a bit subdued but ok and no more vomiting

Cats are 'programmed' to eat grass and then vomit it up. I don't understand the mechanics of it but apparently it's good for their digestive system or something. So relax. It's something cats are supposed to do.

My cat likes to eat grass and have a heaving session. Recently I bought some fur ball remedy biscuits from PAHome. Over three days he bought up three or so disgusting hairballs. Since then he seems really well and contented.

Mine eats grass for the apparent enjoyment of it all. We have a courtyard garden, so no lawn. I grow oat grass in pots so he can have his 'cat salad'. Before that, I would pick him a bunch of lush grass from the park opposite.

My cat did this and so I took her to the vet. He said that they eat grass to make themselves sick and really she shouldn't be doing it. So we've changed her diet (bland) and she's stopped! I have noticed that since we did this she has started to put on weight, so perhaps there was something to this?

chicky seriously? Your vet said your cat shouldn't be eating grass? That seems very odd indeed. Are you sure you didn't somehow get the wrong end of the stick?

Cats are really meant to eat grass. Here's an information page about it that explains why: www.petmd.com/cat/wellness/evr_ct_eating_grass

I was at a very large vet meeting in April discussing this. 75% of clinically normal cats have evidence if mild pancreatitis and this matches with the percentage if cats who intermittently vomit. Are we as vets worried about this? - no.

When am I worried? When my cat vomits more than three times in a 24 hour period.
