A lovely cat with one eye

Me again. Going to see cat tomorrow. As the shelter is out of the local area I have emailled them paperwork of home visit, landlady permission, photos of my house and garden etc etc - in theory, I have been told, it looks fine.

I don't want to get too carried away with excitement, as we may not 'fit' each other but if we do the shelter have asked if I could take him as soon as possible as he is stressed and very unhappy (hates other cats).

Theoretically I could take him tomorrow but I have two nights away next weekend. I could have someone feed him for me but he is a people cat and I don't think it would be fair. Shelter are on the fence. What do you think? Too stressful too soon?

Wow he is really gorgeous. I'm not surprised you totally fell for him. I hope he continues to settle in well with you.

Namechangearoonie123 · 13/07/2014 21:18

What a lovely cat.

Hope he settled down and stops spraying, poor thing must be so stressed.

HolgerDanske · 13/07/2014 21:26

Gorgeous cat!

Happy he has got a happy home :-)

SpandexBallet · 13/07/2014 22:07

What a gorgeous boy!! He's really landed on his feet! No wonder you fell in love so quick.

foreverforaging · 13/07/2014 22:51

Great ending!

Our old cat used to march on the spot and do the quivery tail routine. I was worried he was trying to spray but he used to do it when he was happy and pleased to see you. He was a funny old stick. Still miss him. Sad

cozietoesie · 14/07/2014 13:09

How did he get on overnight? Did he sleep through?

BustyDeLaGhetto · 15/07/2014 13:47

I heard a lot of scrabbling about in the night but for the majority of it he was on my bed. He is using the litter tray well and is eating a mixture of wet/dry food but he doesn't like fish (I know, right?) or cheese.

He has taken one or two swipes at DD but to be fair he has two people he barely knows shouting about how handsome he is and trying to stroke him all the time so we have backed off a bit Blush

Seniorboy loathes fish - with the exception of tuna in brine which he's not allowed because of the brine. Cats don't always like it.

If he gets antsy about being stroked, maybe try just laying a hand on his flank/back and leaving it there without movement? They appear to like the contact and it also seems to desensitise them rather than the other way round. He's probably a bit thin-skinned after all his experiences.

RubbishMantra · 15/07/2014 20:22

What a handsome chap!

Re. stroking, try starting with offering a hand to him, from below, rather than from above, iyswim, wait for him to rub his face on your hand. Then you can begin a scratch around the ears.

crazynanna · 15/07/2014 20:44

Ooh he's lovely! Envy
I rescued a boy and re-homed him a while ago and named him Stanley.

Your boy looks like a Stanley

BustyDeLaGhetto · 15/07/2014 21:28

That's a good idea about stroking, going under rather than over, I will bear that in mind. Have to keep reminding myself he has a 'blind side', so approaching on his other side is important too.

We have named him Maui because that is close enough to his original name so as not to be confusing and because that is the noise he makes
constantly

Other names tried and rejected were Richard, Mr Cat (DD) and WHAT A HANDSOME BOY.

Here he is figuring out opening the door. He can do this, I watched him. We lock it now.

nanna I misread your cat's name as 'Saturday'. Which is almost as good as Stanley.

Cosie he flinches too, I think he has just been made generally nervous after all his experiences. To my extreme joy, however, he loves being picked up and cuddled.

Will he be allowed out eventually?

cozietoesie · 15/07/2014 21:43

I keep forgetting he's blind on one side - I have no experience of a cat with that issue, I'm afraid. How is he in bed though - does he cuddle in? (It's a difficult time of year of course, what with the better weather and not wanting to become too hot. Winter usually brings out the extreme cuddlebug in them.)

Honsandrevels · 15/07/2014 21:47

What a gorgeous cat! We had a one eyed cat when I was a child. We found her as a stray close to our house. She had matted fur, dull colour, one normal eye and one that was huge with a white covering. The vet said that her eye injury plus broken nose suggested maltreatment :( The huge eye was removed and she was much happier without it.

She definitely had a blindside and was often surprised to find people or objects next to her. She'd sometimes misjudge jumps and clatter onto the floor. She was a brilliant cat although skittish around strangers.

StandsOnGoldenSands · 15/07/2014 21:55

Lovely cat. Sounds as though he needs plenty of space and time. Good luck to him and you.

KatyMac · 15/07/2014 22:12

I'm so envious of you: I hope you have a lovely time together learning about each other and growing to love together

BustyDeLaGhetto · 15/07/2014 22:39

Fluffy Oh yes, he is desperate to go out but rescue recommend keeping indoors for 3 weeks to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.

Hons :( for your found cat. There is a cat in rescue currently who has head injuries consistent with a blow to the skull. It makes me so angry. He can't be rehomed but can be sponsored. Poor cat. Fucking people. Glad he had a lovely life with you though.

Cosie sleeps on the bed near my feet, but imagine will work his way up, until I am wearing him like a fur hat by Christmas

Cat has just farted next to me and walked away :(

I suspect you have a very bright boy on your hands - and a bright Siamese can lead to a particularly......interesting..... life. I look forward to reports of his progress.
