steroids or not?

Old girl isn't eating much, though I'm trying by switching types of food.

Could she be in pain? Wondering whether to drop the steroids and go for pain relief.

Vet said she can't have steroids and metacam...

I'd go for some pain relief and give her a few happy days, chockbic. I guess it's getting to that point?

chockbic · 03/07/2014 12:25

Seems to be getting nearer, cozie.

Is hiding away mostly and has peed outside her litter box. That isn't like her at all, she is very clean usually.

Achh. Sad

chockbic · 03/07/2014 12:45

It's awful - but remember, it needs to be all about her now.

All the best. I'll be thinking of you.

chockbic · 03/07/2014 12:51

Yes that's true. I don't think we will go on for much longer though breaks my heart.

Thank you X

Sorry to hear this chockbic

If it really has got to the stage of being just for a few more days, is there any good reason why she couldn't have the steroids & metacam together? I know long term combined use would not be recommended but in this case the emphasis is on keeping her comfortable, painfree & having a little bit to eat.

Maybe speak to the vet again, see what they think

Also is there an option to increase the dose of steroids? we really upped the dose of steroids for my old cat and it kept him comfortable (steroids can make humans feel a bit euphoric so I guess there could be the same effect in cats) although in his case we had very much decided that we would give him a happy last weekend and then have him put to sleep, so the vet was completely on board with us with regard to palliative care.

cozietoesie · 04/07/2014 17:23

How has she done today?

chockbic · 04/07/2014 17:29

Was just coming to update.

She's been put to sleep.

Feel like I can't breathe...

I'm very sorry, chockbic. Sad

I'll be thinking of you. Take care.

Thanks.

I'm missing her following me around and mewing.

She licked my hand before she went.

RIP beautiful girl I love you x

How are things? (That first morning of getting up to no cat can be pretty rough.)

chockbic · 05/07/2014 09:14

I've been awake most of the night crying.

Can't believe am not going to hear the loud greeting miaow in the morning. Followed by a big motorbike purr.

Even the vet said she was special and the nurse got upset too. This was having known her for a short while.

When we had a dog put to sleep a few years back, we were the ones who had to stay strong - the vet (who knew him 'socially') was crying so hard that I was almost worried she wouldn't be able to hold the syringe. I don't know how they cope day in and day out.

It's hard for everyone - but must be heartbreaking for you. I'll be thinking of you, anyway.

chockbic · 05/07/2014 09:29

Me neither but good in a way they haven't become hardened.

She was treated with dignity as she slipped away. Still purring.

We've had other animals including cats but she truly was one of a kind.

Been nice of you to hold my hand :)
