Combing the cat - does the hair ever end?

Our cat is going through quite a moulty phase, and she has coughed up her first furball of the season!

I'm trying to comb her with a special comb to get rid of all the excess hair, but it never seems to end. I've been doing it before feeding her to keep her attention, but I've just filled the comb full of hair and emptied it all into the bin a total of six times! I had to stop as she demanded food Wink, but if I keep going in future will I ever be able to get all the loose hair off her?

Like going up a down elevator, Quack. If you work at it really assiduously, you might get it under control - but you'll never be able to relax completely.

Sorry. Grin

Is cat-combing a thing all cat owners should be doing? clueless
One is a normal short hair, other is medium hair??
Short hair seems more sheddy than medium?

we have one of those rubber prong brushes, it's amazing what comes out of our short haired cat!

The Lodger was short haired but with a very thick coat and everywhere he slept became covered with a ginger felt however hard we tried. I swear that I almost contemplated cutting out the middleman and hoovering him directly!

We have to brush our Persian continuously at this time of year. Had a scary experience last year where he choked on a hairball and nearly died (went unconscuous and limp) Sad I'm now paranoid!

Long or short haired, I think it benefits a cat to be combed regularly. My two short haired boys have very different coats even though they're related, but one's is much thicker than the other's. They also look a lot 'smoother' and feel nicer right after a brush, and of course it helps reduce furballs which can be extremely unpleasant.

Benchmark how awful for you and your kitty.

Just goes to show how clueless I really am then. Had no idea. I would have assumed a fancy longer hair cat might need combing and but didn't know a short haired moglet would! Also had no ideas that hairballs were dangerous!!!
