Any vets here please?

Bear with me I've not posted pictures before. Hope this works.

The poor cat from a few doors down has lost part of its tail. Must have had it shut in a door or something. I first noticed it on Tuesday and knocked on the neighbour's door to check they knew it had happened (which they did).

The cat was in my garden asleep today so I took a closer look - and got a photo too as I'm a bit worried.

Does this look like it has been treated?

The cat is also quite dehydrated. I don't want to ask the neighbours again if they're getting it sorted, but to my untrained eye it doesn't look right. Please tell me I'm wrong?

Any vets here please?

Another thing which is reassuring me is that he's not skin and bone or anything, can't feel his spine etc. Poor condition is mainly his fur is not as glossy or smooth. He was in super condition before which I'm sure is helping him now.

Yes it will help, I think in an emergancy, like finding a cat under a hedge that a vet has to provide treatment to alleviate suffering.

Of course if you took it to a vet who doesn't know you then all the better.

StandsOnGoldenSands · 23/06/2014 21:03

The RSPCA really won't necessarily prioritise this. Neither will other charities. They get swamped and you get lost in the bureaucracy.

If you can, please box the cat up and take it to the vet as soon as possible. It is suffering.

Yes I have done similar in the past btw.

StandsOnGoldenSands · 23/06/2014 21:05

If it takes a turn for the worst it will most likely crawl under a bush to die btw. You won't necessarily know.

So sorry to hear that this is still ongoing

Unfortunately I have had cats who could hold it together & look ok for a while but in fact they were not at all well (happily on each occasion they survived)

I know you are in a really awkward situation here but I would say the cat needs to see a vet as soon as possible, especially in this hot weather when dehydration & flies are both a real worry. I would say if it's not an emergency now, it will be soon.

Good luck & I hope you can get some sleep tonight

And I completely agree with StandsOn about them taking themselves quietly off out of sight to die - one of my "cat emergencies" was when the cat was unwell, it completely disappeared and I eventually found it gone to ground under my shed. It was wedged right at the back corner and was a terrible effort to get it out. It ended up being kept in at the vet for several days on a drip and initially the vet thought it could have FIP which is a horrible diagnosis with almost no hope of recovery (fortunately it wasn't that). I think the cat had taken itself off to die & had I not hunted for him he probably would have done just that.

Is there a cat protection or small animal rescue centre that you could contact. You might find the smaller ones respond quicker. Poor cat could be dead before it's seen at this rate. When cats take turn for the worse they go very quickly. Please let us know how you get on. Thank you for taking care of this kitty. I have six cats and would hate to think of them being neglected. Sad

springbabydays · 23/06/2014 21:48

Well I'm in the same situation as yesterday unfortunately in that I can't do anything till I get home from work tomorrow. If he's still in the same state I'll box him up and take him to a different vet and play stupid.

I'm still counting on the RSPCA coming tomorrow but obviously if they don't then it'll be back in my hands. This poor cat is being let down by everyone at the moment.

Any news?

springbabydays · 24/06/2014 20:15

Hi Fluffy I have not seen the kitty since I got home. Taking that as a good sign!

Saw him just as I was leaving the house this morning, think he'd just been let out as he was making his way through the gardens jumping all the fences.

Wish I knew what was happening.

Keep us posted op. I am really worried about him.

springbabydays · 25/06/2014 15:54

Well, he's still around, looking slightly brighter. I assume the RSPCA have been and (from what I know from the tv) given the owners a period of time to sort it. I'm assuming it's not critical or they'd have seized the cat.

I'm furious with the call centre though. They said I could call 48 hrs after the initial call to find out what had been done. Called this morning to be told that they can't give me any information as it might affect their investigation. Highly unfair.

Update even!

RSPCA inspector came today, neighbours not in but the cat was in my garden anyway. Luckily I was home so she assessed him there. Thankfully she's sure there's no infection. She seems to think it's healing. However she's left a note with the neighbour to ask them to ensure kitty sees a vet for a proper check up. Thank gawd that's over!

Thanks everyone for helping me through all this. I'm so relieved I can't tell you.

I hope they take better care of him in future.
