BIG FAT SADFACE FOR MY CAT

I've posted about this before very recently (on phone, can't link) but rescue cat of six months has been attacking DD. I've had advice from rescue but nothing has worked and reluctantly we have decided to rehome to childless cat loving friend.

I am so sad. His lovely face and purr and big cats paws. His trilling miaow. Ugh. So hard. I am finding it very hard to let go. Any advice?

It's rubbish, yes, but it's lucky for your cat that he's going to another cat-loving home, as opposed to back to the rescue centre.
When he's settled in he will be fine. You did your best - you have to look after your family too!

Cheers Catkisser. We're hoping to rehome another youngish cat soon and this one will be much happier without children I think. It's taken so long to build up his trust though. Silly little sod.

Your efforts won't be wasted, remember. If he's learned to trust people (well grown-ups at least) then he'll settle much more quickly in to his new home and enjoy it more.

Best of luck to him.

PS - is your friend close enough that she'll send you pictures and updates on him?

Sparklingbrook · 21/06/2014 18:59

That is very sad, but you have done exactly the right thing.

I volunteer for a cat rescue and we always say to let us know if it's not working out rather than struggle on. You have rehomed him to somewhere he will be happier and you will be too.

No reason to think the next cat won't be a perfect fit either.

cozie Friend is a work mate and he LOVES cats. I see him every day so it's not as though puss will be a million miles away. Good chance am over-dramatising this isn't there? Grin

Sparkling Next cat will also be a rescue, I have built up a nice relationship with local rescue so they are keeping an eye out for us. DD will be fine I think, had been worried she developed a fear of cats...the fit needs to be right for everyone doesn't it?

I don't think so - you become very used to individual cats and love having then around. Even reports and pictures are only a substitute. If he's going to be happier though........

cozietoesie · 21/06/2014 19:06

PS - maybe let DD choose the next incumbent? Might be good for her.

Sparklingbrook · 21/06/2014 19:10

Exactly Busty. The lady that matches the cats with the people at my rescue is very good, she just seems to know who goes with who. Grin

How old is DD?

BustyDeLaGhetto · 21/06/2014 19:59

DD has just turned four and while she has been super gentle and wary of the cat I can see she is itching to give him stroksies and cuddles. He won't let her though. So a lovely, soppy moggy (pref with some Siamese in him) is on the list I think.

Ooh perfect age for a feline friend. A lovely lap cat who needs fussing. Smile
