Heart Murmur

My darling girl had her booster jab at the vets last week. All was well except when the vet listened to her heart. He said she had a slight heart murmur but not even a Grade 1. He said he would just monitor things as she is otherwise healthy. He said it is quite common. Anyone else living with a puss with a murmur? My girl is 2. Thanks.

I've read on here it's fairly common but because cats lead such stress free lives they do really well on it.

Mine does, at 14 he's much older though.

Vet told me it quite often doesn't mean anything, they can do blood tests to test for any problems periodically, but they don't treat with anything unless puss has symptoms of something.

Lots of people have innocuous heart murmurs too :)

Seniorboy has had a little one for years - but it's very off and on. His vet isn't overly concerned by it and he's 19 now.

Yes, one of mine has a murmur. It was diagnosed when she was 2 and now she's 11. She's under the care of a specialist, has scans every now and then, and has to take drugs every day. She's absolutely fine, though, lives a perfectly normal feline life!

Her diagnosis was chronic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and it could have been an expensive business. I'm bloody lucky she was insured!

It sounds like your girl is doing fine, OP. Do you have insurance, just in case?

One of my colleagues has a cat with a grade 6/6 murmur she adopted him 13 years ago he has lived in Hong Kong, South America, UK (2 occasions) and Georgia. Many cat heart murmurs are innocent.

Queen - Yes luckily she has been insured since she was a baby.

Thank you to everyone for your reassuring posts Smile

I got told the same at our boosters last week. My little kit is 14months old. She has to go back in for another check in two weeks so they can grade it.
Good to know it shouldn't affect her too much
