Help me feel better about my bastard cat!

My poor next door neighbours must rue the day we moved in. The loudest toddler known to man, a dog who barks at everything that moves and now a bloody house-cat who escapes from all my efforts at containing him and wee's in next doors garden. Now I discover he has been into their house and tried to escape through the window when they tried to shoo him out and broke their binds. SadBlush.

Obviously I apologised profusely and offered payment for a new blind, but they are still pissed off although being awfully British and polite about it. I have got a bark buster and shut my dog in the kitchen where he can't hear the postie or anything that might set him off when I'm not there, and don't allow my toddler out early in the morning and try to stop him shouting etc. I have also tried a kind of plastic chicken wire fencing at cats' escape points but will make my DH do the whole garden.

Would a box of chocs and a few beers as well as payment for the blind and a note of how we will stop it in future be ok or is there more I can do. I'm so stressed as my dog is poorly and I suffer from anxiety anyway and can't deal with extra stress just now.

Well, perhaps I am a softy because I like animals, but was this a one-off? I that case repayment plus a little something to say sorry and an explanation of how this will not happen again should be sufficient IMO. Are they an older/childless/animal-less couple? Is that why you are worried that you are too noisy?is the dog barking a lot? Are you the only neighbours with animals and children?

They must have scared him if he broke a blind Sad

It's not really the cats fault, they are just nosy. Does he have to be a house cat?

You're thinking of being quite extraordinarily accommodating, I must say. How do you know they're that pissed off?

Thanks for the replies. It was a one off being in the house but he sneaks in their garden and scent marks/Peed even though he is litter trained and neutered. I am the only neighbour with a toddler, the other children are older and not quite as noisy, they have never complained about him though! My dog does bark a lot as in if he sees someone going past as he has got olderand we moved to a busier street, he gets shushed immediately, there are lots of other barky dogs around, but the same neighbour had to speak to me a year or so ago as he was barking for the whole time I was out (maybe 2 hours) and woke her daughter (8 in the morning ish, daughter is early teen). I immediately got barkbuster, put him in kitchen with blinds shut and asked them to tell me if it continued, haven't heard anything again. They have no pets but are friendly towards them iyswim. Cat must be housecat due to breed being completely trusting with no common sense. He can't be chased out of or water pistol'd out he just lies there. I would like him to be able to go in garden tho, he only ever goes round the close, doesn't roam. He did apologise for scaring him, he opened the door but cat got freaked out and tried to force himself through the window. I could tell by neighbours face he was angry but holding it in. I think I see my lhousehold as chaotic and under control so worry other people must find it much worse.

My cat wanders into our neighbour's house. They adore the bitey bastard him Grin They have a 6 month old son, who he seems to revere...

Cat poo is a sign of their appreciation, fertilizing the flowers Smile
