Rehoming my lovely old girl...

We are moving abroad in August for at least 2 years. This means I have to rehome my lovely old girl :(
She is at least 14 as she was a stray when she found me so not clear on her exact age. I don't want to hand her over to the cats protection etc as I am sure she will be overlooked for younger cats etc. Has anyone any ideas how I can find her a loving home?
I advertised her on our local parents fb site and a lady came to look at her. We arranged a date when she could have her but as soon as I said I would like to see where the cat would be living, I never heard from the woman again which struck me as suspicious and odd.
Any ideas at all? I am very sad as we have been through so much together. She is a wonderful cat.

Aw, she's lovely. How hard for you!

Are you anywhere near the Blue Cross? They operate Home Direct which basically means that they advertise your cat for rehoming but it stays with you until a home is found. It does take longer but this is how we adopted our chap.

Really wish I could help but I am nowhere near you. Fingers crossed you find her a lovely home.

She is lovely.

I really feel for you, I was in just the same situation with my girl cat. I couldn't believe no one wanted her, my beautiful furry girl! although there was eventually a happy ending & I did get her back again on my return.
It's kind of your friend to take her in, any change of scene/routine will take some getting used to at her age but being in a loving home will help I am sure

She's gorgeous and not unlike my 18 year old lady. I'd love another but fear the feline repurcussions.
[yes my cat runs my home]

OP, is MissBlake's offer not of use to you?

East Anglia isn't too far from Lincs.

My vet brought his cat back from Australia with him. Are you sure the flight would kill her? Heart murmers are quite common in cats. It might be worth getting a second opinion.

batteryhen · 04/07/2014 18:31

Hi everyone. MissBlake I have pmed you.
Migsy....I bought her back from abroad 11 years ago and that vet also said not to travel her again that distance as she was so distressed. She had weed, pooed and vomitted in her crate.
She is due to go on monday but I asked my friend how she plans to introduce them and she plans to leave them together in one room overnight in 'get on or slug
it out'. :(

I'm glad she has found a home. Sometimes, introducing cats is not as bad as you think but it does take time. Good luck.

Migsy1 · 05/07/2014 21:39

Oh - just seen the idea of leaving them in a room overnight. Not a good idea but your friend will probably realise that once the noise starts.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/07/2014 21:48

Not a good plan, highly stressful for both cats & doomed to failure Sad

We did that with our childhood cats, they never got on afterwards.

I really feel for you, you've tried really hard for this cat so don't feel bad.

timtam23 · 05/07/2014 23:01

oh dear...I hope your friend changes her mind and decides to do a more gradual introduction.
Try to enjoy this weekend with her, it is so hard to say goodbye to a pet.

batteryhen · 06/07/2014 15:30

We will be having lots of snuggles today. I'm hoping that my friend may realise tomorrow that it is not a good idea to leave them alone so soon. I will miss her :(

I'm so sorry, I think she will realise her mistake when the noise starts.

This must be awful for you. Flowers
