Cattery or cat sitter for two weeks?

Hi everyone!

We need to go away for two weeks in a few months or so and we are struggling to decide what to do with our 3 year old boy cat. He used to go to a fabulous lady up the road from us for anything more than a weekend, supposedly it was a Cattery but it was more like a cat palace which only took 8 cats at once with indoor bedrooms/outdoor runs and a lady who loved every cat like they were her own. Our boy would jump out of his carrier to talk to her when we arrived and I never worried about him there.

However we have sadly moved now and since then our new neighbours have kindly popped in to feed him when we have been away for a few days.

I am reluctant to put him in a Cattery which isn't like the beloved place we used before but feel two weeks is too long to just have someone popping in to fed him daily. He is spoilt rotten and loves company! He is indoor/outdoor normally but only allowed out when we are home via a window as we can't fit a cat flap to this property (military house).

Unfortunately there is no family/friends we could take him to nearby or get to come and stay for the period as we have moved hundreds of miles from everyone we trust enough to do that.

Just wondering if you more experienced cat lovers would find another Cattery or get a pet sitter to pop in and out so he could stay home? Thanks!

I like catterys, he's accident prone & I like knowing where he is. They have pens with webcams!.

I don't book them though, you'd be checking every 5 minutes.

Sounds like you need to find another 'palace' for him. Could you ask around/chat up the vet practice to see if there are any lush catteries nearby? (Or even, if you're still in touch with the old cattery lady, drop her an email and ask: sometimes there are networks of people providing services and she might know of a kindred spirit near your new house.)

We have a brilliant (SE London) cat sitter who comes and spends at least half an hour a day playing, not just dropping in. Where are you? Local recommendations probably best, we got ours via a friend.

PS we find our puss is less disturbed/grumpy on return with a catsitter rather than kennels and we travel quite a lot, so have learned this through experience - but your cat may not be the same. She likes her home comforts and routines, and I think it's less disruptive (also after 9 years of all her injections, on our vets' advice we've stopped giving them to her, which is a must for catteries).

Thanks, I think I am on the hunt for a new palace for him to visit or a solid recommendation for a local cat sitter now, I will which option looks better.

Lessons, I am in Lincolnshire so a bit far from you sadly, thanks for the idea!

A catsitter that can come and actually spend a bit of time here sounds like a good idea, I will see if anyone local can recommend someone and ask the vets as well.

Many thanks!
