Need advice about my old cat

My lovely oriental cat is 13. She has arthritis in her lower spine which she has painkillers for everyday. Problem is she poos around the house, mainly the kitchen but if I don't keep an eye on her when I think she's going to do it she will do it all over the house. The vet said she thinks she does this because she finds it painful to poo, so holds it in for a couple of days then goes everywhere in panic when she can hold on no longer. The painkillers have helped, she doesn't do it as often (used to be every few days, now it's every 2/3 weeks)

The problem is I have 3 dc's and a fourth on the way (38 weeks pregnant) and I just can't bloody cope with it anymore!! Midwife said I should not be cleaning a litter tray, but today I have had to clean and disinfect every floor, carpet and hard surface in the whole house and bath all 3 dc's because she pooed on the floor and one of them trod in it and then walked it round the house.

I love my cat to bits, she is part of the family, but i can't cope with this anymore! Anyone have any suggestions what we can do? We have tried more than one litter tray around the house, more than one water bowl around the house and changed diet to wetter food in case she's constipated, and still she's doing this. SadSad

My old boy (much older than your girl) has bad arthritis and started having poo accidents a couple of years back - his vet put him on both painkillers and a stool softener/mild laxative (lactulose) which he takes twice daily in his food. He has wet food.

He does need the lactulose to help make pooing easier and his accidents have pretty well stopped. It might be worth having a word with your vet and alerting her to the fact that the accidents haven't stopped entirely.

(I know you said that she's only having an accident every two to three weeks but she's only 13 and it could get worse again so best to be prepared. I'd keep that extra tray by the way.)
