urgent advice - constipated cat?

Cat has just started being very uncomfortable, looks like she is trying to poo, some watery blood coming out. Constipated maybe? Vets now closed for bank holiday, supposed to be going away for a few days tomorrow. Is there anything I can do to help her - we have some lax-y-past stuff which I think we've used before for a cat with furballs.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The vets will be open if you ring, they are legally obliged to be open on the phones.

You can treat constipation with Lactulose (used for adults as well as cats) which is available from Boots the chemist. Do not say it is for an animal as they will not let you have it but our vet suggested we use this as our cat was constipated. We used to administer it at night and it seemed to do the job. Unfortunately our cat had another condition called megacolon and after several months of treatment with lactulose we had to have him put to sleep.

Obviously if your cat is really distressed contact the vet as there will be an out of hours number.

I hope the cat is feeling better soon.

Pimple - thank you, I have some of this already - what do you think - a spoonful? Have just given some lax-y-past so will wait to see how she is in a few hours, then try it. And will obviously call out of hours service if needed - awful seeing her uncomfortable.
THANK YOU!

Straining and passing watery blood actually much, much more likely to be a urinary tract infection. Or if she really is that constipated she needs a prescription laxative. All vets must have some form of emergency service so make sure you listen to the full answer phone message.

Be really sure that the cat can pass urine as it could be struvite crystals blocking the urethra which is fatal and incredibly painful.

When my cat had it he had to be very urgently catheterised so he could pass urine.

If he's straining it really could be urine he can't pass.

Fortunately female cats are better designed than male cats and do not get urethral blockages. So assuming that the cat is female from the OP's she in the post we don't have to worry about this.

Totally missed the 'she' Blush

There will be an emergency number you can call - vets are on call 24 hrs .
Get your cat to the vet for assessment .

Thank you all. Had to go out for a couple of hours, and when we got back she seems much better, will give her a bit of lactulose anyway, but I think she must have "passed" something. Will keep an eye. Useful to know about girl cats and urethral blockages. Thanks all.
