this happened i think one day last week, few trails, we thought they may have been a slug in the house. then i forgot about it however it has happened a few times since. today was the worst, shortly after eating there was ALOT of it in the kitchen in different places. no actual food, just clear froth. i was guessing it is a kind of 'sick', she is sometimes sick if she has eaten too fast (she likes to lick the 'wet' from her food rather than eat the actual meat bit). dh was joking with dd that she had rabies which has totally freaked me out. she seems totally fine in herself otherwise, she was been loving as usual today, no sign of agression or frothing from her mouth, as opposed to this sudden onset which i think is to do with having just licked all the wet off her food. weird however that there is no actual food in the froth (tmi sorry).....what do you think?

Has she been wormed? When mine had roundworm he did this. As soon as I noticed a noodle-like worm in the froth I knew what the problem was.

wintertimeisfun · 14/05/2014 21:54

eugh. she is wormed every three months. she has never done this before aside from once last week and twice this week. i haven't looked closely enough at the froth (as it makes me feel sick...) to have noticed if there are any worms in it. i have been on the net', frothy sick is mentioned as ie furballs, something that she may have been eating that is either off or just doesn't agree with her. i think if it happens again i will certainly go to the vet. she seems totally fine in every other way. it only seems to happen in the evening when she has eaten.

Mine does this. It's not killed him yet.

Sometimes it had grass in it so I assumed he had a furball in there.

wintertimeisfun · 14/05/2014 21:54

ps: how big is the worm you mentioned as i will look next time...thnks

Yes Poppy has left me naice froth due to hairballs

cozietoesie · 14/05/2014 21:57

What wormer do you use, winter ?

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/05/2014 22:07

Bannister dabbing. It's a blood sport in this house too.

wintertimeisfun · 14/05/2014 22:12

profender cozie, redone about a week or so ago. fluffy - dh & i LOVE playing 'Bannister Dabbing', BRILLIANT fun. sometimes it goes on for AGES. made better when i deliberately hang a towel down so she can't see where my hand is coming from. when she catches our hand whith her paw she (gently) bites it then licks it. so bloody cute

Mine usually do this with fur balls or after eating grass. Pretty sure it won't be rabies, you're safe!

ProfessorBranestawm · 14/05/2014 22:15

My mum used to put a bowl of water by the fire to keep the air moist. Once she put some peppermint oil in it to make the room smell nice.

After an afternoon spent panicking about rabies after the mint-loving cat drank it and frothed everywhere, she didn't do it again :o

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/05/2014 22:18

Your cat sounds like it has a more civilised approach to play than ours. I think ours has a widget broken.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 14/05/2014 22:18

As the slave to 2 vintage moggies, I can assure you that the froth will be a hairball. Or grass. Or eating something else like my bloody houseplants, but defo not rabies. Cat vom is a large part of my life.

ModreB · 14/05/2014 22:25

Dcat 2 did this. He had a bone stuck in his throat.

Lonecatwithkitten · 14/05/2014 22:26

Do you have a pond in your garden? Any contact with a frog or toad can cause cats to froth at the mouth.
Rabies would be way out there in left field there have been 25 cases since 1946 all in quarantine in animals imported from India, Phillipines and Nigeria.

theeternalstudent · 14/05/2014 22:26

I second hair ball or grass. As soon as I mop the floors my cat seems to bring up a nice frothy hair ball or a wee bit sick. Disgusting.

steppemum · 14/05/2014 22:27

grass
always after eating grass our cats have done this, something to do with tickling the throat??

wintertimeisfun · 14/05/2014 22:28

ah thanks all. she does have very long hair/fur which i haven't brushed for a while so perhaps it is that. she seems find in herself. been playing alot. sometimes just so frustrating not being able to ask them if there is anything wrong just as if she were a baby. my favourite game of the moment with her is to run pulling this really long shawl that a friend gave me for christmas (which i don't like). our cat loves it however. she will run and jump on it with me pulling her along dh's office floor/hallway with me squealing with delight. the cat goes crazy at this, as do i am sure our neighbours who can probably hear me......Grin. you can't beat having a cat around your home, beats watching the tv or going on the ipad

oddly enough there is a small pond next door which she does go in to. we get a fair few frongs in our garden....hope she hasn't been bothering them, never seen her with a frog before but possible. i've stopped stressing now. she has just come in and as usual, gone straight to her food bowl as if nothing has happened. i was going to eat a double Twirl earlier but went off it after finding all the froth & having to clear it up. Handy when trying to cut back on eating shite, clearing up cats mess.
