Poorly kitten with infection

My 11 month old kitten was diagnosed with an infection (probably caused by a cat bite) yesterday by the vet and given an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory injection. She had a very high temp yesterday and wasn't eating. She's moving around a bit more today but still not eating much and seems a bit stiff and shaky. How long would it normally take for the antibiotics to work? The vet seemed to think she'd respond quite quickly but didn't say much else about the treatment.

She was desperate to get out of the cat flap this morning but seems more lethargic this afternoon. Just getting a bit worried Sad

I usually find with an AB jab (I'm guessing it's the two week one she was given?) that there's some improvement within 24 hours but that real progress isn't made until Day 2 or Day 3. Is she drinking and using her tray?

Hi cozie - yes, I've seen her drinking and her tray has been used.

Thanks Thanks you've reassured me as she has improved from yesterday but I'd kind of expected her to be right as rain by now!

How is she this morning?

itsnothingoriginal · 11/04/2014 19:20

Aww thanks for asking!

She's been out and about but still moving a bit gingerly. I thought she should stay put another day to recuperate but apparently she was desperately clawing at the cat flap so DH let her out while I was at work. She's in now so am keeping my eye on her eating/drinking as she didn't eat much this morning - she's a naturally lean cat but I think she's looking quite skinny Sad

If she had a very high temperature and was creaking, she probably had a real stomper of an infection so a little loss of weight wouldn't surprise me.

I'm a little surprised, though, that she got into a nasty fight although cats' mouths can be filthy so one serious bite would do it. Is she allowed out at night? (That's when most fights occur in my experience.) I'm assuming she's neutered?

Good that she's improving anyway.

No she's always locked in at night and she is neutered. She is a feisty tortie Grin cat though and constantly pushing the boundaries of her territory - she came back last week with what could be a puncture wound on her ear. Has scabbed over now but could have been that as vet couldn't find anything else obvious. Vet did say mostly they don't know the cause of infections so this was just guesswork and hopefully ruling out anything else more sinister Shock

Ah - a tortie. Say no more.

So in truth there's another cat out there telling his owners "it was a massive Tom" and being treated for defence wounds.

Grin yes indeed! I'm sure she gave as good as she got Shock

Bit better today although certainly still not back to full strength yet. Just hoping she can stay out of trouble long enough to get over this properly!

Oh good - I was wondering how she was doing.
