Stray Cat

For some weeks a stray has been hanging around. Neighbours have been feeding him. However the last few nights he has been sleeping in my garden.
Finally gave in and gave him some dinner. He is now asleep on a chair in the house.
Luckily my cat seems to be tolerating him
Stray Cat is a tom cat, unneutered very friendly but I don't know what to do. i've left messages with the pet shop local catteries and vets pet found websites facebook etc.

I guess I should as a starter get him checked for a chip shouldn't I? he has no collar.

Well they're sat outside next to each other and there's no mutilations yet so you might be right - my boy had a very chequered start came from a cats home in not a great state so very keen to make sure he isn't compromised at all - he's spoiled rotten! Whatever happens Samson's roaming days are done he will either stay with me or I will sort a home out for him.
He is so easy to see to - he let me pick him up this morning and he has purred at me and done that winding round your legs thing they like doing. I am quite sold on him really.

I'd get him neutered and then see if they get on, they may be quite tolerant of each other. My sibling pair bickering but then will sometimes sleep snuggled up still and they're 6 years old!

EnlightenedOwl · 16/03/2014 13:54

He is asleep on chair again - spent morning in garden as we had to go out.
my lad asleep upstairs. They have eaten breakfast and lunch together.
We have cleaned a bit more of him.

Vets Wednesday to check for chip is the plan.

I have to say that it sounds as if they have already pretty well reached an accommodation?

thecatneuterer · 16/03/2014 14:19

I really wouldn't bother taking him especially to scan for a chip. He won't have one - it's normally done on neutering and anyone who hasn't bothered to have him neutered will not have chipped him. It will be a waste of time for you and extra stress for him.

Book him in for neutering and ask them to scan him at the same time just in case.

Wincingalongslowly · 16/03/2014 14:23

He's yours.

EnlightenedOwl · 16/03/2014 14:46

I'll take him to the vet just to get a general overview of age/health etc. Agree we probably won't find a chip but you never know and if he is someone's I want him to get back to them. One theory is he was left behind when someone moved as this cat has had a home. Or maybe he belonged to a person who was elderly and died? Probably will never know.
My cat asleep on my knee and he is opposite on his chair. All good.

thecatneuterer · 16/03/2014 17:43

Yes but you can get the overview etc, as well as the scan, when he's in for neutering. What's the point of two visits?

It's sounds as though he's settling in nicely :)

timtam23 · 16/03/2014 18:18

Aw he sounds just lovely. I still hope you keep him! I've had 3 cats (2 now remaining) and all of them have been unrelated, and I had to introduce 2 of them to the original matriarch cat (who wasn't best pleased but tolerated it after a while). Your cat's reaction so far sounds really good.

cozietoesie · 16/03/2014 18:24

Might I say timtam that its time for a new photo of Dudley?

(Sorry for the hijack, Enlightened.)

timtam23 · 16/03/2014 21:11

cosie - there are 2 new Dudley pics on this thread - it's the last post on page 1

(Sorry for hijack OP)

cozietoesie · 16/03/2014 21:22

What a gorgeous grown-up chap!

EnlightenedOwl · 17/03/2014 21:47

Just a little update
Unbeknown to me one of the neighbours has also been taking care of Samson and has sorted out for CPL to neuter him that is being done tomorrow. If all is well he will come home and then I will take him over e.g get him microchipped vaccinated and insured. He and my cat seem fine with each other so all is well.

cozietoesie · 17/03/2014 21:56

Are you going to have to divide with the neighbour? Wink

(I'm recalling that The Lodger also spread his favours around a bit until he finally decided where he wanted to be his 'main place' - but he still went back every few days to keep the neighbours sweet even when he moved in properly. Grin)

Glad he's getting on well with your cat.

Sparklingbrook · 17/03/2014 22:04

Oh no. A catshare? Grin

Corygal · 17/03/2014 22:12

He is completely gorgeous! A little furry angel dropped from the skies come to live with you!! You are terribly lucky.

You must name him at once and get him his own bowl and bed.

EnlightenedOwl · 18/03/2014 13:14

So its good news. He tested negative for feline leukaemia/HIV
Neighbour will collect him from vets tomorrow then I will pick him up from neighbours at 2pm at which point he is mine
Booked in with vets next week to start microchipping and vaccines.
We will keep him in a few days to accomodate to being a house cat again.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 18/03/2014 13:17

Is he to get The Snip as well? His acclimatization will really take off with that being done.

(Good news about the negative tests by the way.)

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/03/2014 13:17

From "didn't really want another cat" to "he's mine from 2pm tomorrow" in 4 days.

Grin

Did they vaccinate him?.

cozietoesie · 18/03/2014 13:17

Sorry - forgot. He's having that done tomorrow?

cozietoesie · 18/03/2014 13:18

.....From "didn't really want another cat" to "he's mine from 2pm tomorrow" in 4 days......

Quite so. (I wasn't going to say anything.Grin)

EnlightenedOwl · 18/03/2014 13:50

Yes all neutered. So will keep him in for a few days to get him used to being a house cat. Booked in for vaccs next week.
He really is lovely. did not object at all to being put in box to take to vets today.
Had both cats in the house yesterday with no problem other than we couldn't persuade them off the sofa to go outside!

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 18/03/2014 14:00

If he's been on the road for a few years, he may be relishing indoor luxuries - and your other cat is following his lead.

Well done Samson.

cozietoesie · 18/03/2014 14:01

PS - did the vet give you a closer estimate of his age?

EnlightenedOwl · 18/03/2014 19:09

We will find age out tomorrow as person who phoned today did not have that info in front of her. I am open minded even if he is say six or seven that does not put me off. But we think he is younger than that.
