Can anyone tell me of their experience with a Maine, DS1 (20) would like one and I only have experience with Bengals, Siamese and Foreigns. Any comments would be very helpful.

Dh knows one who lives with two other cats & three large dogs. The cats are fine with the dogs & the dogs know their place.

Our's is five months old now, and is only getting to grips with the mutual bum smelling thing cat's do. I felt bad for the other cat who would show the kitten the cats bum and would get attacked or sniff the kittens cats bum and be turned on.

Cozie, I have passed on your suggestions! it seems he has already looked into NFC but is drawn to the Maine Coon. I am really grateful for everyone's advice, I can feel myself giving in. He will have to wait though, my old Bengal isn't going to be with us for very much longer :(, he deserves peace and quiet and and my undivided attention .

We have a MC cross - he's awesome but not overly cuddly. He's very confident and loves water. When he was in the vets after being neutered he was playing in his water bowl. He also gets in the bath with my 7 year old sometimes too.

I have 2 MC cross around 2yo (they were found) one of mine is extremely intelligent & can open the treats & is long enough to reach the door handle and press it down he just isn't strong enough thank god.
They are great at jumping, mine can jump from the floor up on to a 7ft unit right to the top (nothing to grip on to) & often jumps from the shed to the conservatory roof which is about 5ft wide the gap, it's mad but they really are a fantastic breed, mine have never scratched anything & you can also train them to do tricks, I trained mine to give me a high five when they want a treat Grin

There was a maine coon in our regular cattery. The cattery owner said he had been kidnapped and ransomed (I kid you not) for quite a lot of money. The owners paid and got him back. He was quite traumatized by the experience though and would over groom, so bald patches. I thought this was a bonkers story, but the cattery owner was not daft.

They are fabulous, but you'd have to guard him.

Oh I quite believe you, Bird.
