Cat and Moses basket

I have a Moses basket for the baby. It is very convenient but the cat likes to climb in with the baby and has ended up lying on her face. I have tried shutting him out of the bedroom but the lock is weak and he can get it open. Or the kids leave the door open.

I wondered if anyone had a great solution or should I just get rid of the basket and use a cot instead?

Put a bolt high up on the door?

Tell kids off about leaving door open, bolt is a good idea or one of those door closer springs that fire doors have?
Sell the cat.

I'm pg and have three cats. I'm not looking forward to this scenario either.

Buy a second hand Moses basket for the cat.

Use a cat net

Fix the lock

Thanks for the ideas. The house is rented and quite old. It's the door knob that is loose and doesn't close properly. We had it fixed but it went loose again.

We tend to just heat the rooms we are using so during the day I will bring the basket down to the living room with me but I thought the cat was out and just heard the baby struggling and there was the cat on her head. Argh! I think I will just have to get a proper cot with a net and let the cat have the basket.

I thought it was a myth about cats smothering babies but obviously not.

I was just about to say get a second hand Moses basket for the cat, with a heat mat it would be perfect.

It is a little large for a cat bed but it would keep the baby safe.

I would get the lock fixed as a priority. Cats like to snuggle up to warm babies whether they are in a basket or a cot. I have turfed my cat out of the cot on several occasions.

Not really a worry once the baby is old enough to roll and move about, but I didn't like muddy paws in the cot

We used to wedge the door shut using a rubber door stop when we had this problem. Tried a cat net but it didn't work as cat just sat on it anyway so it sort of sank down with him on top!
