Hi, My dear old lady left this earth yesterday and I have quite a few of her things that may well benefit another old/sick cat or very small dog. I have a nice wicker enclosed cat bed, two electric heating pads (the kind you can leave on all the time, they have thermostats), several little fleece jumpers and two furry cushion beds. Also some really nice cat shampoo. If anyone would this stuff and can collect it from me in north London, please do contact me.

theDudes

I appreciate that you'll want to find a good home to give them to but could you bear to clean them and put them somewhere in a cupboard. You may need them again some day.

(Failing that - and if nobody takes you up on your kind offer) maybe give your local rescue a quick phone and offer them?)

theDudesmummy · 19/01/2014 13:18

We won't be having a pet again in a hurry! (Have a special needs child and want to focus on him now! The last year of having a non-toilet trained autistic toddler plus a doubly incontinent and sick cat has been quite...well....interesting to say the least!). But if no-one can come and get them yes that is a good idea, I will take them to an animal rescue place. Thanks for that!

Oh I'd love that stuff, particularly the heating pads, but N10 is just a bit too far to drive from E6. Any rescue would be very grateful though.

theDudesmummy · 19/01/2014 14:19

I have an office in South Woodford, which is nearer to you, if that helps? I will next be there on Wednesday afternoon, and I could leave the stuff there for you if you like, and you can pick it up? Do you have an old cat?

thecatneuterer · 19/01/2014 14:32

Oh that would be fab. South Woodford is very convenient to me. In fact my dentist is there and I'm going there next week anyway (I forget which day).

Yes I have around 10 old cats (and a new one arrived on my doorstep yesterday, I'm not sure if she's going to make it though) and around 12 not so old cats. I'm involved with the Celia Hammond Animal Trust. Please pm me the details. Thanks so much!

Sounds good, PMing you now! Glad the stuff will get used. Some of it is quite new.

OK it is all arranged and thecatneuterer will be collecting the stuff! At least something nice in a sad time!

And going to a person who volunteers for a rescue as well! Nice one, ladies./

Indeed Cozie:) As I mentioned to Dudesmummy the stuff will be particularly useful for my very latest arrival. An ancient old girl at death's door, barely able to walk, covered in fleas and painfully thin arrived at my door yesterday. I opened the door to put something in the bin and she was sitting right outside and just sort of staggered in. I swear there must be some sort of cat notice board somewhere telling the waifs and strays where to go.

Anyway she seems a bit stronger today, and is certainly eating well, so I'm hopeful but there could well be underlying issues, and she is certainly very old. She may well appreciate a fleece jacket. I'll post photos if she takes to it:)

Poor old lass.

Out of interest. Would CHAT help with a vet check up for her even though she turned up under her own steam (just about) and not through them?

thecatneuterer · 19/01/2014 15:41

Yes of course she'll be seeing the CHAT vet. But really, when there has been near starvation, it seems it's often better to wait a few days for things to settle down. That way I'll have more of an idea of how ill or not she is, and the blood tests will not be so skewed by the affects of starvation.

cozietoesie · 19/01/2014 15:42

Of course. Good luck to her.

thecatneuterer · 19/01/2014 15:43

effects

thecatneuterer · 19/01/2014 15:43

that wasn't meant to be bold. grr i'll stop now

thecatneuterer · 27/01/2014 19:52

Just an update on this if anyone's interested.

Dudesmummy very kindly dropped off all the equipment at my house last week. The enclosed wicker basket thing is beautiful and was immediately claimed by my old lady cat Elsie, and she's barely left it since. I think she likes the fact that she feels none of the other cats can get close to her when she's in it (she's not keen on other cats).

The heating pads and beds have also proved very popular.

And she very kindly included a microchip cat flap, which I've installed in my neighbour's house as lots of my cats realised there was a lot of gourmet food available next door (her cat is very spoilt) and she was feeling a bit invaded.

So that was all wonderful.

And I'm pleased to report that the ancient, wobbly stray I mentioned above that arrived just over a week ago is going from strength to strength. She has almost doubled in weight and can not only walk but now run and jump too.

She went to the vet today and apart from an ear infection has been given a clean bill of health. She has had a quite radical dental at some time in the past, so she obviously had caring owners at some point. Unfortunately though she wasn't chipped.

I'm wondering if perhaps she belonged to an old lady who died and the relatives just abandoned her (unfortunately it does happen). I'll never know now. If only it were compulsory to chip cats ...

cozietoesie · 27/01/2014 20:00

Excellent update, TCN. Well done to both of you!

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/01/2014 20:15

What a lovely update. I'm pleased it benefitted the neighbour too, her cat can eat in peace now.

timtam23 · 27/01/2014 20:26

That's a lovely update and particularly nice to hear that the wobbly old stray has perked up, it sounds as thought you saved her life Smile

timtam23 · 27/01/2014 20:27

*though

cozietoesie · 27/01/2014 20:28

Did the vet have any idea of how old she is,TCN ? (Difficult, I know, once they get quite old.)

thecatneuterer · 28/01/2014 00:55

Cozie the vet agreed with me that she must be 15 or over. It's certainly not an exact science though, so it's only a rough guess.

She weighed 2.6 kg today, and that was after having increased her body weight by about a third I reckon, so you can imagine how thin she was when she arrived.

And yes timtam I'm sure she would have been dead by now if she hadn't found me (or someone else as soft). Her first night in my house she was so weak she urinated in her bed as she hadn't the strength to get up, and laid in it till morning. A cat has to be really weak to do that. She's a totally different girl now though. How she managed to totter far enough to find my house, and how she knew mine was the house she needed I'll never know.

theDudesmummy · 28/01/2014 12:30

Very glad the pussies are benefiting, and the old cat is perking up. I have found another cat bed while tidying up, it's a really light foam one so I will post it to you.

That's so kind of you, thank you!
