Very vocal cat at night!

I am so tired today. My bloody cat kept me awake all night meowing and meowing. She seems to have gone very vocal...I'm dreading tonight. My boy is quiet as a mouse.

How old is she? And is she (and he) neutered?

FeelingTheFire · 15/01/2014 16:28

She's just under a year and both are neutered. Both were done at 6 months. She's only become vocal over the past week or so.

The little terror is fast asleep next to me. Probably gearing up for tonight. I hope she lets me get some shut eye at least. I've been surviving off cups of coffee all day

Well all was quiet until about 5 this morning before she started again. I have no idea what's wrong or if she's just decided to be vocal. She's eating and drinking fine and is generally ok in herself.

When is their last feed? (And is she getting her due or might boycat be pigging the lot if he can get hold of it.) It just may be that she's finding it hard to get through the night on an empty tummy. I've always spread the food throughout the day (I'm lucky in that there's nearly always someone home, here) so that the animals get four meals with a lateish supper at about 21.30 to 22.00. That seems to suit them all best.

FeelingTheFire · 16/01/2014 11:39

Last meal is around 10:30 - 11pm. If anything it's boy cat who has to watch his food lol. The thing is, she comes in the bedroom meowing, jumps on the bed and nuzzles (while purring like mad) and it's like she wants to play. I have to sleepily stroke her or she'll start nipping my arm.

I often hear her playing around the 5am mark - you can hear the ball rolling across the floor. So I'm wondering if it's just her body clock and she's full of energy, ready for the day.

I'd hang tough then and ignore her. She's being a teenager but she needs to learn that yowling gets her nowhere.

Does she sleep with you? (I'm also wondering if she misses the company of her person.)

FeelingTheFire · 16/01/2014 11:50

Boy sleeps with me and she does try to come in as well but if he's on the bed, most of the time she has no chance (pending on his mood) as he gets so jealous (he was here a year before her). I leave my bedroom door open though, and she comes back when he's sleeping and settles above my head (normally). But now she's taken to the yowling. I'm trying my best to ignore but I need my sleep :)

She's lonely and wants more person contact. (And jealous of boycat herself, I suspect.) I'm not sure what you can do about boycat because he has settlers' rights, really. Could you maybe put a cardboard box in the room for her - near the bed - and fill it with an unwashed fleece or something?

Have they each got their own litter trays for the night?

FeelingTheFire · 16/01/2014 12:55

She has her own box downstairs with a fleece blanket in, I think I'll move it upstairs and see how things go. Because she knows boycat will tell her where to go if he's awake in the room she pretty much has learnt to settle in the box downstairs and venture upstairs a few hours later.

She is a very affectionate cat, though. She loves having cuddles and made fuss of. I have two trays available for them - one upstairs and one downstairs. I read somewhere with 2 cats you should have 3? They have no problems using either tray, though, so not sure if getting a third will make much difference.

I'd try moving her bedbox upstairs for a night or two and see if that makes any difference.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

Boycat sounds like a right little bossyboots in his own quiet way?

FeelingTheFire · 16/01/2014 14:00

Oh he is Cozie, he rules the roost here. He likes his own space and to come and go as he pleases. He's a spoilt little so and so. He definitely makes it known he is the boss.

Thanks for your help. I will try moving the box tonight and let you know how it goes :)

Just want to say thank you, Cozie. I've had 2 relatively peaceful nights sleep after bringing the box upstairs. Still heard the old yowl, but as soon as I make a shush noise she seems to settle after hearing my voice.

I think the odd yowl is just to do with her personality and she likes to hear herself lol, that and possible reassurance that I'm near by :)

That's promising even though it's only been two nights. I hope Boycat's nose is not too much out of joint?
