Where to go from here

We rescued a male kitten 7 years ago. From the start we found out he wasn't a snuggly Purry type cat. He would tolerate being petted for a minute or so then scratch us. If we annoyed him he would disappear for a few days.

We had him for 2 yrs before Dd arrived. She never took much notice of him but he left shortly after she started moving around. An elderly neighbour was feeding him and leaving her empty coal shed open for him. He wasn't interested when we brought him home and went straight back. Everytime we left the door or window open he was away. We tried going to her garden and physically bringing him in every night.

This went on for a couple of years, we all just accepted it and gave money to our neighbour regularly for food etc. After the birth of my second child he decided that he wanted to come back. Just started appearing at window wanting in. Everything was ok until my 2nd child started moving around. He is very aggressive towards her and everyone else in family. He is not happy at all. We have taken him to the vet, several times now and nothing is wrong with him.

We tried to get him rehomed in a house without children but no one responded to posters.

He has now started doing the toilet everywhere. Again vet can't find anything wrong. He mostly does it in his bed, our daughters room, behind the tv. He is house trained. Sometimes it's ok for a couple of weeks and sometimes he poos every day. Even if we leave the door open he will still do the toilet inside.

Neither child is particularly interested in him. I'm at a loss where we go from here. He's obviously not too happy.

When you say he is house trained do you mean he learned to use a litter tray or the cat flap?

He used a tray when he was younger and the. Started using the cat flap after a little while. The cat flap is there from previous owners. We brought back the tray when the problems began , he doesn't use it.

Have you tried Feliway plug ins? (They are quite pricey at e.g. Pets at Home, but there are some better prices online). They mimic the pheromones the cats produce when they rub their heads against things to scent them - so are supposed to help the cat to feel more settled. We have a few of them as we had a few problems with cats weeing in inappropriate places - I was pretty sceptical about them but the weeing has stopped so maybe they do work!

He might not like his litter. If our tray isn't;

Clean plastic.
Free of clumps/poo
Filled to a depth of 1" litter
Ultra clumping litter, not normal clumping. Talcum scented preferably Hmm I'm not even kidding on the talcum scented litter it really exists Shock

He wees on walls, chairs, the divan bed, windowsills & laundry baskets, so I've learnt to keep it how he likes it or suffer the consequences.

Seniorboy will often yell at me if he's used his tray and I haven't noticed - he doesn't like it being dirty if he thinks that he might want to use it some time in the future, not just because he does.

Sighing here.
