She keeps vomiting all over the house, shes started shitting everywhere and she is really quite old now. I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and really, really can't have her just puking and shitting everywhere :(

Bit sad about it really

Geckos - did you manage to get to the vet today? How are things?

Geckos48 · 03/01/2014 20:44

I can't do it yet. She's really improved the last few days, I just feel really, really bad about it.

In what way(s) has she improved, Geckos?

cozietoesie · 03/01/2014 21:15

And have you changed anything that might have contributed to that?

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/01/2014 21:25

I was in a vets today behind a man paying in installments, they said pet aid or something like that had paid the first £70 then he was paying £10 & I heard him say he would be in next Week to pay more but this vet is in a deprived area and I suspect he wasn't the only customer who pays in installments.

cozietoesie · 03/01/2014 21:52

My vet accepts installments/deferred payment - I know, because I've heard the occasional waiting room whisper of 'Well can you put something towards that today?' (That darned exceptional hearing of mine - the nurses were really being very discreet.) I guess it's down to the practice's policies though - and if they've been stung too often, they likely wouldn't be keen on extending credit on anything they weren't legally obliged to do.

We're a pretty deprived area in general.

woozlebear · 04/01/2014 01:39

No way will a consult cost 70! I have a visiting vet who comes to the house for an hour long appt for 45. Local vets are 30 ish.

Do you not have insurance? Could you get insurance and wait to take her to vet until initial 'you're not covered for x days after policy starts' time has elapsed?

So sorry she's not well.

Geckos48 · 04/01/2014 07:31

Haven't changed a thing, shes just stopped shitting and vomiting in the house.

I dont know what has changed really, I have started mixing her wet food with a bit of water as recommended here.

Hopefully we have her for a while longer :)

Whether or not she's improved I still think she needs to see a vet.

It might just be something disagreed with her but there could be other things wrong still. I strongly advise you take her. She might jut need a special diet now, one that's not so heavy on her kidneys or stomach.

Please don't assume she's suddenly better there was clearly a problem before. It's unlikely it's just gone away.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2014 11:57

I did think we were going to lose our old cat in August but putting her on a kidney friendly diet and water out in random bowls seems to have helped a lot and given her a renewed quality of life.

Geckos48 · 04/01/2014 12:00

What did you change kitten

We went over to Royal Canin renal diet, plus the extra water. She does have diagnosed end stage kidney failure. We tried her on medication but it made her poorlier. We buy the food from whichever website has it on cheapest at the time, but sadly it is still very pricey :(
