My cat is wanting to wee constantly

Only noticed it this morning, but he has been in and out of the litter tray and the flower beds, and I noticed him miaowing whilst having a wee, so suspect it hurts.

Luckily the vet has an appointment at 3 pm. Hopefully they'll just give me some antibiotics for him.

After spending a lot of time at the vets when he was younger, he's been ok since about June. I hate having to take any of my pets there Hmm and I especially hate it when they're not well. HmmHmm

Cystitis or crystals I would say. Lets hope it's the former as it's easier to treat. Either way you need an emergency appointment so well done for getting him to the vet immediately. Good luck.

Fingers crossed

He's only 2 years old and doesn't have much dry food, so I'm quite surprised.

Back from the vet's, she thinks it's just a bladder infection, has given him antibiotics, painkiller/anti-inflammatories and some litter to take a urine sample when we take him back on Friday. Hopefully it isn't a blockage, but he is doing tiny frequent wees in the litter tray.

Poor little thing he must be so sore.

thecatneuterer · 31/12/2013 18:40

Poor soul. He should start to feel better very soon though.

SolidGold · 31/12/2013 19:23

I hope so. I keep checking the litter tray and he is weeing, which is good. He is also eating and I'm mixing a little water into his food so that he gets extra fluids.

The vet also weighed him and he weighs 3.8 kg, which is less than in May, when he weighed 4.2 kg. he's not a big cat, but was very light when young due to sore gums. It took a long time to sort out his gum problem and a lot of different medication, and the advice of a lovely MNetter. I try to feed him up all the time, difficult because my greedy Siamese will pinch his food, given half a chance. So I can't leave food down for him to graze on when he wants. I used to leave dry food down all the time, but the Siamese weighs 5.2 kg, so a little overweight.

i don't give any of mine dry food....as Reuben gets cystitis, our normally laid back vet ranted on for ages about the evils of cat biscuits.

I also have a palaver with meal times, one likes to graze, one likes to eat ALL THE THINGS and another is very old and looking a bit thin and is on "feeding up" programme!

Catsmamma · 31/12/2013 19:28

oopps, posted too soon...hope your puss is better for his anti-bs.

Poor little chap, bladder infections and conditions are the pits. I do hope he's feeling better now.

SolidGold · 31/12/2013 19:47

Thanks catsmamma Smile How do you feed them to accommodate all their needs?

I've been feeding a few times a day, just a small spoon for Siamese and a BIG spoonful for skinny boy Wink Luckily he eats faster than Siamese.

They currently have 25g each of dry food at bedtime. During the day they have wet food. I'll not give them dry food for a few days at least.

Currently I'm feeding them Bozita bought from zooplus, it's grain free. However a helping is a pack ma day of 390g, and they cost £1 per pack. As dh is out of work money is very tight and I'm finding it quite expensive. Any ideas of another good wet food that is cheaper I can feed them? I can't feed raw, my dog is on a raw diet and my freezer is full to bursting!Shock

lots of whispering and closing the kitchen door. ;)

the grazer and the Eater are in and out, so the Pensioner Skinny cat gets plenty of tit bits while they are out as he only ever goes out once in a blue moon.

SolidGold · 31/12/2013 19:53

Lol

Just been looking at the price of other foods and it seems £1 a day per cat is quite cheap, so I'll stick with it for now. Pity I have a whole bag of dry food in the garage that I bought online so can't return. I can probably take it to the local cat shelter though.

I feed aldi tinned, apart from the rabbit and turkey flavour, it's cereal free as is butchers choice.

SolidGold · 31/12/2013 20:40

Thanks Fluffy, I'll have a look at those.
