Is it better to get 2 kittens together for company or is one on its own OK? My DH is SAHD so it won't be short of company.

Also girl cats I have had in the past were more aloof than the boy cats - I really want a cuddler so would I be better with a boy?

When do kittens start coming into shelters? Keen to get a rescue kitty but not sure about breeding times etc.

Thank you! Everything seems to have changed since I got my old kitties (sob) so many years ago.

I think you need a little black kitten called Fudge!

Shelters have loads of kittens, black and white cats have a reputation for being mostly lap cats.

You might even take on two adult cats who like to be with each other and avoid the traumatic kitten months.

I'm a bit over kitten hood, can you tell? Grin

Strewth - you'd take on two adult Bengals?

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/12/2013 19:24

God no, I'd take on two adult mogs though.

Twice the love.

The distance isn't an issue if you'd like her - trust me on that one.(And speak to Cailleach.)

Having said which, I got Seniorboy at 13. There's much to be said for an older cat.

We got two kittens, brother and sister, 2 mo, last august. I would highly recommend getting two. It's so lovely to see them play together.

Get two.

It's much harder to introduce a second one later whereas two littermates will sleep together and groom each other and generally get in to trouble together.

Have you considered a kitten and its mum?

LastOneDancing · 30/12/2013 09:02

Oooh get two - they're so much fun and attack each other instead of your toes/ankles/ furniture.

The fussiest cat I ever had was a black and white boy (I miss him Sad). I have a tabby boy & girl at the moment and while girlcat is my permanent shadow, she's not as fussy as the boy, this seems fairly typical.

Envy kittens!!

For kittens I would say 2, we took in a very young stray kitten over the summer and for practical reasons we did not get another to keep him company (we already had 2 very old adult cats and a very small house!). Also DH is a SAHD and so we were certain that the kitten would have enough company, but had we both been working I think we would have had to get a kitty companion as he would have been left alone too much & been too lonely. As it is, he hassles the one remaining old cat (who tolerates him but I think a kitten of a similar age would have been a better match)

I think it would be a good idea to get two, to keep each other company, although it's great that your DH is around all day for them.

I also think a black kitten called Fudge is a wonderful idea Grin

We have decided to get two!!!! My Psychiatrist ( god bless that man in so many ways) said he thought it was exactly what I needed so DH agreed! Will be calling rescues tomorrow! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
