Trouble with my second cat - any insight?

Am at my wits end. Any insight would be great.
I have 4 cats, have had them all for years now and no issues. My second cat however has taken to doing poos in the hall. Its been going on for the last 2 months and I have no idea why.
He (they all are) is healthy, up to date on everything. Flea drops and worming things administered. He's not a young cat nor an old one. He is eating fine, playing fine, going outside fine. Everything is fine except this issue which I fear has become a habit with him now - I put the litter tray in the hall and he still goes on the bloody floor rather than in it - I really do not understand.
I am going to have to get another litter tray today to keep in the kitchen and lock him in the kitchen over nights when he does not go out (winter, rain and so on) while providing litter tray for the others to use if they are not in kitchen as well. I can't round up 4 cats each evening to lock them all in kitchen, they sleep under beds and all over the place, it will be too much of a nightmare each night to gather them all up!
While this is a solution I can't understand the issue to begin with. Vet says he is fine by the way, no health issues - I got the vet to check his poo, took a sample down like a fool and asked him to check it as I am flummoxed why this is happening.
Oh - all cats get along fine, no trouble brewing between them, they've all been together for years.
Anybody have some insight as to why this is happening now?

Maybe he doesn't like his litter anymore.

Try sophisticat gold talc scented ultra clumping litter and wash the trays out with hot water and washing up liquid, no disinfectants.

Cats usually poop outside their litter due to territorial stresses. How many litter trays do you have?

I've read you should have one per cat plus on extra!

It is unusual for him to have just started, has anything significant changed? I.e, any new pets, litter products? It may be down to some sort of external stress.

Just how old is he, OldTom ? And is he a big breed of cat?
