My 4 year old cat was coughing on Wednesday night and again yesterday morning. I took her to the vet and they admitted her for xrays. She came home after lunch yesterday, a bit wobbly, and spikey, but otherwise fine. Vet left a message to say it looks as if she has asthma, but i now won't be able to speak to the vet till Monday now.

Has anyone else got an asthmatic cat?

Afraid not. But \link{http://www.icatcare.org/advice/cat-health/asthma-cats\this} may prove useful reading for you. It sounds, from a quick skim of the material available, as if it's something on which you'll likely need to be fairly well informed.

Good luck with her.

My last cat had asthma.

It was really easy to manage: I just gave him a steroid tablet (part of one, crushed into his food) every day.

He lived until he was 17 (died of cancer in the end.) I used to get a prescription from the vet for his tablets and then buy them online: they are pretty cheap in any case, but that did save me a few quid over a year.

She'll be fine I am sure :)

our ex-street cat has asthma - there's obviously something in the environment in the UK which he's allergic to which he hadn't come across in Dubai ...

to be honest he's fine at the moment - the vet is monitoring him and we'll decide if he needs treatment in a few months when we have a better picture of how it's affecting him

He's happy and healthy, gets lots of exercise and has a very good appetite, but he does cough most days

I have a couple of asthmatic cats who take inhalers using the Aerokat spacer. They are very well controlled without the need for systemic steroids.
