How do you clean a wiggly kitten's teeth?

Luna, our rescue kitten is now six months old. I posted a couple of months ago about how she wouldn't eat dry food and we weren't sure if she was being difficult of it was something to do with her teeth.

Yesterday we had her spayed so got the vet to have a look whilst she was under anaesthetic - her teeth are fine, but she has mild gingivitis. So it looks like we're going to have to clean her teeth - somehow!

She is very wriggly (it took two of us an hour to try and get her into a plastic collar to stop her picking her stitches yesterday - we gave up in the end!), and has very sharp little claws. She got the vet yesterday when he tried to look in her mouth BEFORE the op!

So - any tips? (I'm not holding out much hope!)

There is a tube of something or other toothpastey for cats that people put a blob on their paw and the cat licks it off IYKWIM. Also there is stuff you can add to the drinking water.

The water stuff is called 'Aquadent', and the paste is called 'dentisept', may be worth asking your vet about.

Thanks, she has her post-op checkup soon so will ask. We've never had this problem as the others tend to keep theirs clean by munching on dry food!

Sparkling Cat has had two dentals in four years she just seems prone. But lovely as she is she will not tolerate a toothbrush.

I am going to try again with putting a blob of dentisept on her paw, and she has the stuff in her water.

I've tried - and failed - with two cats. They 'll tolerate nail clipping but absolutely not teeth, ever. I wish you better luck.

I asked at her check-up earlier and after I'd stopped laughing when the nurse asked if there was any chance I could put a toothbrush in her mouth, she gave me a bottle of the stuff to put in their water. :)
