That's it really....where's yours?

Mine is currently in the hallway by the front door....

We have a middle room (Victorian terrace house) which is a throughfare/study/playroom, one is in there, the other is in the spare room upstairs.

I currently have a dilemma. A couple of weeks ago I decided to change from wood pellet litter to Cats Best clumping. I filled the upstairs one with the last of the wood pellet, and put the Cats Best in the downstairs one. The cats (two of them) have completely stopped using the upstairs (wood pellet) one for poos but there is evidence of a bit of weeing. It is much easier to keep the downstairs one clean because it is close to the bathroom so I'd rather they stuck to just using that one. I need to clear the upstairs one of the wood pellets tomorrow but can't decide whether to try and do without it and risk accidents or put Cats Best in it and have them start using both again. Hmmm.

You can flush cat poo!!!

Why oh why I have only just had that pointed out to me I have had cats for twenty years!!

Wonder what other simple things have passed me by??

Gorja, just don't let the dcs empty the crap into the loo unless you're sure they will be careful.... Dd1 still tells the story of how she managed to tip the entire contents of the litter tray on the floor in the downstairs loo - and then spent some time pursuing the turd around the floor with the scoop. I never knew and probably walked on the floor in bare feet Shock.

I've always kept an outdoor (only) litter tray. Don't know why everyone doesn't do it. Best of both worlds--no smell in the house and cat uses it instead of ripping up neighbours' gardens. Maybe it's because my cat is perfect, of course.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 06/12/2013 00:09

My cats hardly go out at the moment (only had them for a couple of months and they are struggling to establish territory amongst the neighbours). What sort of litter do you use with the outdoor tray, does it need to be kept under shelter or is it completely boxed in?

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 06/12/2013 09:20

Thinking about it that wouldn't work for us as the cats are locked in overnight because of proximity to the main road.

Snakeoil · 06/12/2013 12:57

Yes, the tray is coveredyou can buy them with a "lid". I use supermarket basic litter. I do try to lift the "solids" out on a regular basis. My cat has a bionic bladderseems to last overnight just fine. I do move it inside if it is awful weather such as snow. Not a lot of other cats around us, so it seems to work. Love my cat, but hate "that" smell!

catameringue · 07/12/2013 05:07

In the cats bedrooms.

They don't know it yet but I shall be reclaiming the house from the feline overlords and shoving a litter tray outside in a converted shed.
I want the bedrooms back!

Ours is on the landing. We have a modkat litter box which was stupidly over priced but worth the investment - looks nice and keeps litter out of reach of curious toddlers

Sparklingbrook · 07/12/2013 08:41

Don't flush any cat litter down the loo though.

Ours in in the hall. I have to have it by an outside door so that if it is particularly awful I can pick it up and sort it outside.

She hasn't used it for ages though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 07/12/2013 08:49

The Cats Best one says it is flushable, we haven't had any problems so far. We did start out bagging and binning with the wood pellet, but the stink from our wheely bin was unbelievable and that was in cold weather.

I don't want to risk doing anything that would encourage the cats to stop using the tray as we are enclosed by other people's fairly small gardens. My neighbours have moaned to me in the past (before we had our cats) about cat shit in their garden and I detest it myself as a gardener, so we are resigned to using them permanently. Might look into the outdoor ones in the spring.

3 cats, 3 trays: one next to downstairs cat tree, two upstairs, either in bathroom or kids' bedrooms.

VenusDeWillendorf · 12/12/2013 00:24

One in the shower tray: she decided that's where she'd go even when we had the tray on the floor beside the heater in the bathroom. Came in one day to see a yellow patch in the shower tray, so that's where one of her trays are.
And one beside the freezer in a quiet spot for her morning wee.
Poos done in the bathroom tray after brekkie.

Upstairs hallway next to the barhroom and our bedroom

scurryfunge · 12/12/2013 00:37

I don't have trays beyond kitten age usually because I've always had cat flaps and they can go out easily. Our current kitten is a slow learner though. I move the tray closer to the cat flap gradually and then outside but this particular kitten doesn't get it yet. She comes and goes using the cat flap but still prefers to use the litter tray inside. I've been putting it outside but she keeps coming back in to do her business (she has found the storage box where I keep the litter bag and has been pooing in that, so I get her logic Grin ).
