Pregnancy and litter trays.. really worried

Got our gorgeous little kitten back in September. I have been changing the litter tray from the start.

Found out today that I am pregnant with DC3, unplanned but a lovely surprise :-). Am now very worried that dealing with the litter tray could have caused some damage or other to the baby. Advice and hopefully some reassurance please! When 'scooping' the poo out have been using nappy sacks and use the tray liners so when cleaning it out has just been a matter of tie-ing up the bag, wiping out and then refilling. Have of course been washing my hands thoroughly with anti bacterial soap and hot water afterwards..

I wore disposable gloves (Ebay £4 for 100 pairs) washed hands after & used hand gel.

I always use doggy poo bags as well to scoop!

Im sure you will be fine OP.

You should be fine, OP. Normal hygiene will do the job.

As a vet I looked into this careful when I was pregnant particularly as at the time we did quite a few manual evacuations on cats. Wearing gloves and was your hands is adequate precautions the risk from pink lamb is greater than the litter tray.

Thanks all! Very helpful and has put my mind at ease - will get some disposable gloves tomorrow and think no more about it!!

I seriously doubt you've done anything harmful but its just about being sensible from here on in. Dh found this anti bac soap from pharmacies that looks like surgeon soap. It was pricey but one dispenser has lasted 3 months so far.
We use nappy bags, a separate cat poo bin and gloves either disposable or marigolds.

Fact is, cats march round the house having just been to the loo anyway, licking their areas and then licking you or things in the house, so you've probably got accustomed to its germs etc by now.
