I started a thread a while back while waiting for the vet to ring, at the time things were not looking good and we honestly believed we would be putting our cat down.
Previous thread here
We were asked to take our cat home for a month, try and get some vitamin powders down her to help her liver recover and we were also given a months supply of Zantac as her appetite was very up and down and it would protect her stomach. Basically as long as she ate, put on some weight, the jaundice continued to fade and there were no other major symptoms we were told to hang on for a month.
The plan is that after a month, assuming the jaundice has improved enough that we should do tests for thyroid function and then put her on meds should that be the problem (fairly certain it is).
My question is does anyone out there have any experience of cats who have recovered from jaundice and gone on to be treated for thyroid, did it make a big difference (appreciate this is a very specific question).
At present Fivemoggy's appetite is very up and down, though she has put on a little weight.
Giving her the Zantac is distressing for her and us as she hates it (I'm nursing bites today, at least she has her strength).
She never gets on our laps anymore for a cuddle (she used to sleep on my boobs a lot).
She's pee'd in the house a couple of times, she's never done that before.
On the bad appetite and sometimes pee in the house days she tends to sit hunched. Other days she will relax, groom, potter about like her old self.
Basically if this is what she is going to be like even with the Tyroid meds then I'd rather save her the distress of further tests and PTS, the good days slightly out weigh the bad, but I feel like this wont last much longer.
If there's a decent chance it could make a decent difference then I will go ahead.
I'm about to book an appointment at the vets.
I'm trying to be unemotional about this, but I found pee in the dogs bed this morning and I'm back in the what to do what to do mess of worry and misery and to be honest our vets aren't good at giving guidance. We have stuck with this vet as we are in the middle of treatment and one of the many at the practice was decent.
This is all written in haste, I'm out for a bit, I'll check back lunch time.
