Cat food. Sudden change in kitty habits

Didokitty (6 months) used to eat anything. She was especially fond of pouches of wet food and would wolf them down in short order. Over the last week she has decided she doesn't like wet food. At all. Any of it. I have tried her on lots of different makes and flavours but no, she's not having any of it. She is currently living on James Wellbeloved turkey and Rice Kitten kibbles. (Other kibbles, eg Purina will not do)

She seems perfectly happy and very lively but WHY? Why has she suddenly gone of all wet food? Why have I got a huge box of various sorts of food she won't touch?

And will it do her any harm?

as long as shes drinking enough water and you are giving her a good quality dry food she will be ok james wellbeloved is a good quality one, the foster kits i had till last week one of them loved the wet food his brother preferred the dry fussy sods is cats and the box you have of food she wont eat contact your local rescue they will probably take it as all rescues spend huge chunks of their budgets on food so all contributions are usually gratefully received

Is she due to be neutered soon ? (I'm wondering if she's getting hormonal and fussy.)

itsnothingoriginal · 01/11/2013 20:00

That's a good idea issey - our kitten recently went off Butchers Choice leaving us with a load of unused cans! Our kitty is 6 months too dido - I wonder if they do get fussy around this age Confused

When do the adult teeth develop? Would they prefer dry food at that time?

Whoah...wait a minute, what is this phenomenon? I have a 6 month old kitten, due to be neutered next tuesday, and she has suddenly gone off wet pouches too.Shock.I have a cupboard full of different brands of wet food and none of them are suiting her ladyship at the momentConfused. She is eating dry food alright and is acting like a complete lunatic the past few days..is it the age then or whatHmm?

cozietoesie · 01/11/2013 22:36

Well that was a wild guess on my part up there - but coming into heat (or getting thereabouts) can do strange things to them. Myself, I'd leave the pouches in the cupboard and wait and see how she is when she gets back from the op.

Frankly, if she's still being fussy once she's recovered from the op, I'd hang pretty tough. I know I'm indulgent with Seniorboy and his likes and dislikes but he's an elderly cat in what may well be his last winter. I wouldn't be wanting to give in so readily to a kitten being so fussy. (I'd just put out smaller portions so that if they went dry, there was still fresh in the fridge. And vary flavours a bit.)

Thanks cozieSmile

Didokitty was spayed a month ago so not that is our case - but it is interesting that at 6 months they all seem to have a "bit of a moment".
Thank you for your interesting and informative replies!

Maybe just an initial attempt to exercise their powers then. If so, I'd hang tough on easy food provision, perhaps trying some forage toys and more games to cheer them up. (Loads of water always available of course.)
