Cat litter + food?

Hi,I just got a 3 month old kitten on Wednesday and was just wondering if anyone can recommend a good but cheap cat litter until he is able to go outside.
I recently bought sophisticat wood pellets and found that it basically turned into sawdust when he used it and was chucking out tonnes of it.

Just today bought coshida lidl cat litter and so far found its great and especially 1.99 for 10kg.so far I'm very impressed and don't really expect to get cheaper for the quantity.

I pick up after the cat as soon as he has done his business when possible and it really is very little that I'm chucking out each time.

Also id like to know if it's ok to feed him adult wet cat food?
I feed him kitten dry food as to me the adult dry is obviously too big for him to break up and eat.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Seniorboy likes clay clumping litter (and is pretty darned fussy about it) and he'll tolerate LIDL's if his favourite isn't around. If your cat likes it then I think you're OK.

What brand of food are you giving him?

Iv so far given him go cat kitten dry food and felix adult jelly meat pouches and he seems to like both but want to make sure he is getting what he needs at least.

The cat litter seems to be approved by him so far and is better for him to bury his poo/pee but iv noticed he waits til iv cleaned his mess while he watches be it a pee or poo until he goes again.
The wood pellets ended up spread about my floor randomly with him chasing and playing with it and he couldn't really bury his business either with it even though it's more expensive and evidently has a nicer smell.

He sounds like a fussy one so I'd get an extra tray for him. (Always useful to have an extra around even if the plan is that he'll eventually go outside - if he feels like it.) And the Coshida is so cheap that cost of litter is no concern really. (Poundshop often do trays.)

Thanks for your replies I did think that he is going to be a fussy cat if he waits on me cleaning up after him between pee's and poos.

I only bought the coshida as I happened to be in lidl and needed litter and I know I couldn't possibly get cheaper and better,it will do for now and will probably still keep a tray even when he becomes an outdoor cat,I don't really have room for two trays though (it is a good idea) so will probably just have to put up with cleaning after him.

Clean up pretty fast then as you said - and yes, he may still like a tray inside, even if he goes out, particularly for nighttime because it's best to keep them in at night due to the extra dangers for cats then.

(The Lodger went outside but still used a tray inside most of the time. Seniorboy is a housecat and has two trays to himself - both of which he uses.)

I used Catsan for the first couple of months of having our two kittens as that's what they were used to but it was awful stuff. Took the plunge and after a bit of research decided to try Oko Plus Clumping Cat Litter by Cat's Best. It's seems a bit pricey at £23 for 30ltrs but a bag should last months and so far it's lived up to my expectations. It forms into balls which can just be scooped out and sticks to the poo so again can easily be lifted out. It's a natural product and you only have to top it up very occasionally rather than having to do a full litter change which I was doing every 5 days before. Still got over half a bag left and had it 2 months now so definetley cheaper. Really wish I'd tried it earlier! Only slight down side is it can track a little but I'd rather sweep a bit up than be changing the litter tray out so often.

I think you can get mats for round the tray which trap any scatter, sooze ? I haven't used them but other posters may have.

I hate the Oko litter. I bought it following recommendations on here but I don't get on with it at all. Dealing with the soggy bits is pain, and it tracks just as much as the wood pellets, except it's grittier. And it seems to get in my bed (well of course I do have a lot of cats sleeping with me) and it's like sleeping in toast crumbs.

I much prefer the standard wood pellets where I can just chuck the whole lot in the bin a couple of times a day. Perhaps it's the number of cats that makes the difference. After all I've got 20 (ish) cats (although some go outside) to 3 trays.

And I've got loads of those things to catch the scatter. They make very little difference.

Litter seems to be a personal thing. It's just a case of trying different things and finding what works best for you and your situation.

There you go. I'm more or less stuck with clumping natural clay because that's always been the thing my boys have liked. And they're the ones who have to use it after all.

Thanks for the replies guess it will e trial and error .
