Will the vet remove a claw from my cat?

So my lovely little rescue cat seems to have a claw on her back foot that she cant retract. The problem is when she scratches her ear she is cutting herself to shreds with it the ear is constantly scabby which makes her scratch even more. Obviously I know declawing isnt a nice thing to do but do you think the vet would be able to remove this one claw just to prevent her harming herself further?

Could you clip it? Declawing involves removing a toe joint.

A relative of mine was offered declawing 3 years ago when she had their bengal neutered, I thought it was illegal here.

I dont know if clipping would help I think there would still be quite a bit sticking out. I dont know what shes done poor thing but the whole claw is completely out she cant pull it in at all.

It sounds like an injury then, there must be a tendon that pulls claws in and out. Maybe she has a soft tissue injury.

Lone will know.

Removing a claw for medical reasons should be allowed, Fluffy. It sounds like a vet trip is needed yoube to have her situation assessed.

It would need close assessment to see if it was medically necessary. Declawing is a specifically prohibited act in the UK unless for medical reasons. Any vet would need to be certain there really is no other way of solving this. Personally I would want you to try regular clipping first.

Thanks all off to the vets we go see what they say before the poor thing actually puts a hole in her ear

Just a quick thought. I've recalled that Seniorboy had an unretracted back claw a few years ago which was causing problems - and that was clipped within an inch of its life and manipulated back in. It hasn't given any specific problems since even though his back claws are a bit dodgy with age (and lack of teeth) and require general ongoing attention.
