So the bloody cat has tapeworm! Any risk to us, DD3 in particular?

I just found a tapeworm segment on the cat's tail, even though he is regularly wormed and de-fleaed (although fleas haven't been a problem). After a spot of internet research, I've just ordered some Droncit spot on stuff. But, can cat tapeworms transfer to humans? And if so what are the symptoms? DD has had a tummy ache for a week or so and I'm wondering whether I need to get her wormed as well. I have no idea obviously how long the cat's been carrying worms around.

It is theoretically possible for some cat tapeworms to be transferred to humans. However, to contract this tapeworm you need to consume a flea infected with the larvae. The grain of rice like segments you see on the cats bottom are not infectious to humans. Due to the mode of infection it is incredibly rare. Cat roundworms are a much greater risk.
