I've wanted one since early spring and I still want one now!
I think I would like a girl Ragdoll.
I'm not sure what colour to go for though.
Are they as lovely as they seem?
I have two DD age 5 and 8, are they ok with children?

cat about the night time issue! I'm in remission from cancer which has left me with long term fatigue, I would be ok with occasional wakings but not every night if that makes sense.

Well, yikes. Here's a quote from the Rescue Site.

'Anyone can put two cats together and can call themselves a breeder but that doesn’t make them reputable or responsible. Buying a kitten is an important and long term commitment so you want to choose a breeder that has the best interests of the cat, their breed and you in mind. Reputable breeders usually don’t advertise in the local classified newspaper ads, glitzty magazines, or on a poster taped to a wall – the places that the average person might look. Responsible breeders will not take orders for kittens over the internet. Most importantly, they will not sell in litter lots, and they will not sell to pet stores. And while some will say it’s because the breeders are being elitist the real reason is quite simple. These venues encourage impulse buying. Impulse buying all too often leads to disappointment when the cat turns out to be just a cat, with a cat’s needs. Shelters and rescue programs are full of cats that were bought on impulse. Such a fate is not what a responsible breeder wants for the cats he or she has helped bring into this world.

A reputable breeder will be registered with a Breed Club (such as TBRCC) this is to ensure that all cats and kittens are kept healthy in proper enviorment and are bread according to Club’s Code of Ethics. Beware of breeders claiming that are registered with GCCF, There are No „GCCF registered breeders“'

Note the last sentence.

Now either that site is wrong (in which case you should contact them quickly to check out the error) or you have a problem.

I've just PM'd you the site cozie yikes!
If I am going to buy a Ragdoll I need to find a proper breeder! Don't know how to start!

I have to go in about 10 seconds. I'd drop a quick email to the rescue site contacts. It may just be a question of terminology - or the info may be slightly out of date and needs changing - but I think you need clarification.

Re the night time issue, you just don't know with a new kit if they are going to be a night time crier or not. Even once neutered, and sometimes even with the company of a second cat, some cats are just needy and noisy. There is an argument for getting a cat whose personality and habits are already known instead of the cute tiny kit.

My older boy still wakes me up a few times a week wanting attention, though is much better now I leave the door open for him into my bedroom so he can come and cuddle down with me. Both of mine are very attached to me, and dislike doors being closed between me and them!

I have to admit to rather liking it myself, even if it does get rather hot and I get kneaded half to death. I know if you got a raggie like my older boy, he would bother you at night now and again, but my younger one is slightly more independent and as long as he can sleep on me he is alright! My two are absolutely my best little friends, right now Ive one sitting on my feet, they are never far away from me, and I honestly believe their affection for me goes beyond the fact I have opposable thumbs to open the cans of cat food!

I hope you find the right little cat for you!

MinimalistMommi · 08/10/2013 13:21

Thank you cat I will keep you updated on here. If it all goes ahead I'm sure I will have a trillion questions! Thanks

Just to say that the breeder of my mums Rag was/is reputable apparently and has all the accreditations ,our cat does not have genetic issues but was just unfortunate however the breeder was not remotely interested in how he was and this was literally a day after we had collected him . If you are in the south east I'm quite happy to PM you and let you know her name so that you can avoid her .

WinterWinds · 09/10/2013 12:25

Yes, you do have to make sure the breeder is reputable. It is heartbreaking to lose a cat to an inherited disorder.

Totally agree with this statement....If only I knew what to look out for before purchasing my Raggy Boy 7 years ago. I didn't know any better and didn't do my research. I made every mistake in the book.
If i had known then what i know now i would have walked away

He was not typical to the breed profile in anyway shape or form. He became aggressive and temperamental and i had nothing but problems with him. I still loved him to bits though.

He died suddenly 2 years ago this past August of undiagnosed HCM at the age of 5.
