My cat doesn't seem right

He wouldn't come in last night so he stayed out (he does this around once a week) and he came in this morning and ate his breakfast. Ever since then he has been lying on my bedroom floor. I went up to see him about half an hour ago and he was just lying there, he did purr when I stroked him.

I went down to get him a little bit of ham and he came down so I did his frontline and gave him the titbit. He's disappeared off upstairs. He doesn't seem in pain or flinch when I touch him all over, but he looks unwell, his eyes are all sleepy and he's just not himself. He's only 6 so not old. I'm worried about him, I think I should take him to the vet tonight, what do you think?

He's not insured because I'm stupid and didn't renew it when it ran out after the first year, so any vets visit is going to cost money that we don't have but I want to make sure he is ok.

I think you have to take him to the vet - and today. I have no idea what it could be, but you really need to get him checked out.

MummyPig24 · 27/09/2013 13:18

Thank you. I'm going to phone now.

Good. Let us know.

Then renew your insurance. When you are short of money it is so, so important. For people who have a few thousand lying around it's not so crucial. Of course no one wants to spend that sort of money on vet fees, but at least you could if necessary and so you can take the risk of not having insurance.

If you don't have much money then insurance is absolutely essential as without it you face having to have your cat put to sleep for the want of a few hundred pounds.

I'm taking him at 5.20. He's back in the same spot he's been all day, all curled up.

I will definitely sort the insurance out. I've been meaning to do it for about a year ever since my aunt got her cat who has spent more time at the vets than at home!

My two year old tabby did this a few weeks ago. I woke him up one morning as usual to give him his breakfast and he just looked groggy. He only ate half his breakfast and was definitely out of sorts. I went to work and left DP with strict instructions to take him to the vet if he got worse.
He spent the whole day asleep on the bed, the whole night asleep on his pillow and the next morning he was up and about right as rain.

I'm sure your cat will be fine, OP, I think they just have days where they feel a bit bleurgh, just like we do.

Let us know what your vet says.....

Well the little monkey has made a miraculous recovery! Not long after I posted he got up and came down onto he sofa, then went outside. He's back to his normal self, had some food and is bright and perky.

So I have cancelled the appointment and I will watch him closely over the next few days. Thanks for the advice people!

Oh great. They do like to worry us. The problem is you never know if it's likely to be serious or not and if in doubt it's always best to get them seen straight away, particularly if it's just before a weekend. So yes keep an eye on him, but I expect it was just one of those things

Little blighter! (But good news.)

Mumsnet ate my post! He's happy and purring on my lap. The vets are open tomorrow so I can take him if I need to but he's back to normal now so I don't think I will need to.

Excellent - but get that insurance sorted out ASAP, eh?

MummyPig24 · 27/09/2013 20:41

I'm on the case.
