Cat flaps for UPVC doors

I want to get a cat flap fitted in our UPVC door (if the land lord agrees), I just wondered how easy it is to do and who I'd need to get in to do it? It'd probably be easier to get someone who knows what they are doing rather than DH cutting holes in the door!

Is it a door that's just one tall piece of glass, or is it two pieces of glass, or is it glass at the top and plastic at the bottom?

It's glass at the tom and plastic at the bottom.

Well that's incredibly easy then. You could probably do it with a stanley knife, and certainly I would have thought with a sharp chisel to make the first hole. And of course if it all goes horribly wrong you can just go and buy a new piece of plastic from any double glazers dirt cheap.

I would do it yourself, or get your DH to do it. Otherwise any sort of handyman will do.

Thank you! I'll be ringing the letting agent tomorrow asking if we can fit one (at our expense obviously). I hate the idea of my kitties being stuck outside all day in winter because they tend to ask to go out before I go to work and disappear over the fence and then they can only get into the garage while I'm out.

Also having a big stress cos Boy Cat hasn't come in yet tonight and he's usually back really early and I'd rather he could come in when he chose and not when I stood at the door calling him.

Best reassure the letting agent that you'll replace the panel if/when you leave.

Hope Boy Cat comes back soon. Dirty Stop Out.

If they're not keen on the idea then you can suggest you just buy another piece of upvc to cut the hole in. You could then swap it round, keep the intact piece, and put the intact piece back when you leave. That way the door would be exactly the same when you leave as when you arrived and they surely can't argue with that.
