Do you let your kittens/cats into your children's bedrooms at night?

My cat-hating dad was horrified today when i told him my kittens like sleeping on dd's bed at night. He seems to think they'll smell milk/food on her breath and will consequently lie on her face and suffocate her...

I've always left my door open and they happily sleep with me.

I originally did the same with dd's door, but she started to get annoyed with the kittens because they would come in and wake her up by playing on her bed etc. So i began shutting her door each night.

Now, however, she says she likes them coming in and cuddling with her. So I'm back to having her door open at night and the kittens can just go between rooms. They seem much happier with this because they used to scratch her door and cry when i shut it.

My dd is 5.

My kittens are male/female and almost 7 months.

What's the 'done' thing?

Our lovely cat sleeps on everyone's bed, he takes turns each night. I have two 6 year olds who are delighted when he chooses their beds to sleep on. I love sharing my bed with our cat.

I was never allowed my cat in my bedroom at night as child - I think because we used to accidentally lock her in rooms and then she peed.

My cat now sleeps on my pillow - she sure to curl up around my head when she was tiny.

A cat would not suffocate a five year old - and I don’t think there has ever been a recorded case of a cat killing a baby. Urban myth.

We have always shut our cats in the kitchen over night. Not because of any fears or worries, but as they outside cats, I don't want muddy feet, or dead animals in the main house, and certainly not on our beds.

Our cats used to sleep IN our beds when we were children (a little older - about 7+). They made great purring furry hot water bottles for going to sleep with. Then they would usually wriggle out late evening to go see my parents, get fed and get shut in the kitchen/garden for the night.

Cheddar always sleeps on the pillow on the other side of the bed. She occasionally wakes me for a cuddle, but not so often now. Thank goodness!

Our cats can sleep where they choose but rarely choose the beds. I did find one asleep on the kitchen table this morning. It's near the window so he likes surveying the garden.

minipie Me too - when I was young, my cat used to purposely burrow under my covers, to hide and sleep. Every night mum had to come and check under my covers when they went to bed. I used to love it, but I do remember being covered in flea bites!

Apparently my Mum used to find the cat asleep in my pram with me! He was a big soppy ginger boy and I'm surprised we didn't have a double pram!

There's nothing nicer than a cat on the bed!

Two cats on the bed Grin

Ours scratch DD door so I accidently open her door when I go to the loo (DD is 17yo so not a young child , I let them pile in)
