Hi everyone.

I have just become the owner of a little 8 week old boy kitten. Until Friday lunch time I was dead against the idea. I have two Dds 4&6 and a dh. Friend from dh work said he had to get rid of it as no room for it so it was a save the kitten or the unthinkable. I am so glad we did take him as I am in love already. He is just the cutest little furry black and white kitten I have ever seen. And trust me that is saying something as I was definitely a dog person.

First afternoon was good he goes to his tray no bother eating wet food but not dry yet and having some special kitten milk. He did two wees then a poo and it was runny and he got it all over his legs. I cleaned him with a wipe but he didn't like it one bit and again today two poos first one more firm but second one was a little more runny. Is this normal? I really have no clue but have family who all have cats and been reading up like crazy.

Booked him into vets (registered) and he will go next week for his jags once 9weeks old.

How often do we feed him? And can kittens decide they don't like a flavour of food? Wolfed down prawn whiskers last night but only a small amount of salmon today.

Oh and any good places for pet insurance? And how much litter do you use?

Like I said new to the kitten world but totally in love with him :) any help and advise would be very much welcomed!

Aah, how sweet for you! When ours was a kitten we fed him a dry food for kittens which we left down all day and water (I don't like the smell of wet food).

The first day we had our kitten it messed on itself and we had to bathe him. I think it is probably nervousness.

With the litter, it took us a while to get the right mix of no smell and long lasting - we found Catsan best. You need a good covering of litter, so that even when they scrape, it is still within the litter, rather than the tray.

Enjoy him!

Some kitten dry food needs wetting a bit or its too hard for small teeth, I only found out when ours wouldn't eat biscuits. I avoid Iams due to animal testing.

Kitten milks not really needed, it makes you feel like your doing a "proper" job though iyswim.

Kittens can decide which flavours they like, especially if they see you bulk buy it. I feed Aldi tins, excepting rabbit and turkey, the tins are cereal free and 9.5% protein. More expensive food is higher, gourmet is 14%. There's also amionda carney off the online merchants. It's best to avoid cereals in cat food, they are obligate carnivores after all.

Messing is mandatory for kittens, mine did it in the car home from the breeders. That was a long drive I can tell you.

This is you
